Today, Senator Rick Scott introduced the bipartisan Sunshine Protection Act, to officially “lock the clock” and end the twice-yearly time change and make Daylight Saving Time the national year-round standard.
Senator Rick Scott said, “I hear from Americans constantly that they are sick and tired of changing their clocks twice a year – it’s an unnecessary, decades-old practice that’s more of an annoyance to families than benefit to them.

right, sunrise Duluth Mn on 12/20 is 7:55 standard time , it is 7:02 standard time in Miami. That would be an hour later daylihjt time. every time this is discussed here,Nixon’s energy “energy saving “ switch to daylight time in winter, 1973 , is mentioned, children waiting for AM buses in pitch dark during AM rush hour.
How about we just skip DST? It would be much safer for young students to go back to regular standard time.
“Should be standard time that’s made permanent.”
I quite agree. What is so sacred about this artificial construct of “daylight saving time”, that it should be made the standard?
The time zones, based in the middle point of the 24 time zones each consisting of 15 degrees longitude of the earth’s surface, and verified at any time by the sun’s position in the sky. were established so transportation between time zones would have a consistent base point, known as Greenwich Mean Time.
Playing little games with “adding” or “subtracting” from the established solar time for a given zone is an exercise in futility. Nobody gains or loses a thing.
I don’t change my clocks...
it’s why I have two sets of clocks !!!
ONLY in the states south of the Oregon/California border does standard time vs daylight time make a difference in the light for kids going to school. Those of us north of that line spend our winter mornings going to school in wintertime IN THE DARK, DST or not.
In fact, moving the time an hour earlier in the WINTER makes more sense if you want natural light longer in the evenings, which is the original reasoning for the shift. It’s going to be dark in the morning anyways!
“Standard Time (what we are on now) is for the children...”
It is always “for the children”. Just start school an hour later.
DST is for anyone who works outside.
When I was working it used to drive me crazy......now that I’m retired it’s not that big of a deal. But I would like to see this go through.
Much prefer Daylight Savings Time so pleased with this suggestion.
“I’ve never found it bothersome enough to be ‘sick and tired’ of it.”
The best clip of Hillary is “I’m sick and tired”.
Schools, etc can start at any time they and parents choose.
Sunrise comes at 8 AM in SE Idaho on Standard Time on January 1st. I get up for work at 7 AM. It's dark. Today, Feb 10th, sunrise was at 7:34 AM. Still dark. It will be March 4th when sunrise reaches 6:59 AM. On March 9th, the switch to DST occurs. Sunrise will be 7:51 AM. In the dark again. April 7th will bring sunrise at 7:00 AM Daylight Time. September 7th begins getting up before sunrise again.
could offset by half hou year round like St. Johns New https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/canada/st-johns
Lock it to Standard Time, and if schools need to adjust to accommodate daylight hours for kids, let them do that at a school or state level, not by adjusting the physical clock itself, but by adjusting the start and end times of a school day.
Same thing with workplaces. If some workplaces would still rather have the time shift, then make the schedule 8-5 some of the year, and then 9-6 for the rest lf the year.
As a software developer, doing away with DST entirely would simplify so much for us in the long run. It would make anything that’s dependent upon time zones and DST just that much easier to contend with, and you wouldn’t have to schedule a maintenance window in November just because some esoteric tool you use can’t distinguish between 1AM DST and 1AM standard time.
Should be standard time that’s made permanent.
Exactly!
Why spring forward if you still have to fall back to get up in winter daylight kids.
Just leave it alone and on the long day days just get your ass up and go to work while it is cool in the early morning hours snd let yourself off an hour early in-the afternoon to still do whatever it is that that daylight savings time supposedly allows you to do
I’m for whichever one makes it get dark later. I don’t care if it’s dark in the morning. Gives me something to look forward to.
I’m with you. I can go to work in the dark. I hate coming home in the dark.
Article is from January.
Today Rick Scott was on X, whining about how the Democrats were making Repubs “jump thru hoops” to get Cabinet nominees confirmed. But, he assured, “no matter how long it takes, they’ll get it done.”
How reassuring is that? “No matter how long”. Poor little Repubs, just can’t seem to figure out how to make hoops go away. Disgusting.
Or how about just go with sun time. Has worked for thousands of years
Amen to that. That would be daylight savings time. I’m all for more daylight in the evening hours so one can spend more time outdoors. Good for the kids too.
“I’m fine with it as it is.”
Well, you can change your clocks if you want to.
Classic federalism issue. Repeal the 1966 law that federalized this.
