Former Disney Channel actress Christy Carlson Romano says she was shot in the face during a birthday event for her husband on Friday.
Romano said she had taken her husband to shoot clay pigeons as a gift for his birthday. But there was “another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.”
Romano’s husband took her to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas, where doctors worked to clean out the wounds, she said.
“I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” she wrote. “Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”

I’ve been RSO on several ranges over the years, and I’ve thrown folks off the range for unsafe handling and goofing around.
All the “omigodimsorry” in the world won’t bring back a life, or undo a maiming.
Every clay course I have shot on, you can only shoot where the clays are flying.
I'm thinking she may have been in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

Considering that the other two pellets that hit her didn't break the skin, the shot came from quite a distance away.
Most sporting clay courses I've shot are circular in nature, walking from one station to the next. So it's quite possible the shot came from someone shooting from a station in the opposite direction from where she was.
