California Police Chief Faces Backlash for Harboring Illegal Aliens, Refusing to Enforce Federal Immigration Laws
Right Report ^ | 02/10/2025 | Lance Johnson

In an era of heightened tensions over immigration, the actions of one police chief in a small California city have reignited a national debate about the role of local law enforcement in federal immigration enforcement. Mammoth Lakes Police Chief Daniel Casabian has insisted that his department will not cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a decision that has drawn sharp criticism from federal authorities and conservative media outlets. The controversy underscores the broader conflict between sanctuary city policies and federal immigration enforcement efforts, with critics arguing that such policies threaten national security, public safety, and the rule of law.

Those California democrats sitting on the political fence are starting to learn that their politicians and bureaucrats are working to keep the criminal class in the state. That's gonna breed some new conservative voters, with hope for the Golden State.

Why aren’t all the sanctuary city officials and even legislators enacting sanctuary protections guilty as well?

If a single citizen in that town is harmed by one of those illegals, the Chief will be liable in more ways than one.

“Backlash”!? So far I’m not seeing much backlash. And we’re seeing elected officials continuing to obstruct justice and defy Trump whenever they like. 59 million was sent just last week for illegals in NY for Pete’s sake!

critics arguing that such policies threaten national security, public safety, and the rule of law.

I'd like to see these "critics" enumerate how deportation "threaten":
national security - if anything, catching terrorists enhance nation security
public safety - so getting rid of drunk drivers, criminals, rapists and thieves is bad?
the rule of law - sanctuary cities violates the "rule of law", federally.

Are modern Democrats now again championing the cause of ‘States Rights’ over federal Govt.?
History may not repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme a lot.

Does Mammoth Lakes receive any money at all from Fed Govt? If so, stop it all, since they don’t want to cooperate now.

The sooner they start arresting these people and putting them in jail the sooner this will stop.

The Trump administration could seize on your idea by promising DoJ legal action to support the family of anyone who was injured by an illegal where the local/state law enforcement deliberately frustrated federal efforts. Just as most J6 defendants plead guilty because of the expense of fighting the FedGov purse, so too would locals likely settle to save the expense involved fighting against an adversary with unlimited funds.

They are. They’re just daring the federal government to arrest them. Lord, I do hope that such arrests actually take place. We need law and order, starting from the ground up, if we are to make it.

Arrest Mammoth Lakes Police Chief Daniel Casabian and have him perpwalk around city hall a few times in handcuffs and leg irons, then throw his sorry ass in jail.

Hmmm. Someone dying because of overdose should be included in that scenario.

The dimorats do seem to be very fond of their narcotics and willing to fight to keep the drugs flowing.. If we can somehow manage to get the cartel out and drive the cost of drugs up just maybe things will improve somewhat...maybe.

Mammoth Lakes and Mammoth mountain ski resort are now a playground for the elites after it was sold to Intra West and Aspen Skiing. The Sheriff is just protecting all the illegal housekeepers and groundskeepers the hotels and condos employ.

Yeah no kidding! We spent lots of summers there when I think it was the McCoy family owned Mammoth. Great family friendly place then.

The left has a script with effective phrases which elicit emotional responses. If one actually pays attention to what the left is doing, it’s nothing but uttering those phrases, advocating for more of their failed policies, maintaining the status quo, and more spending. Actually accomplishing anything positive for America and Americans is not something they really care about, they just use those scripted responses to give the impression they care.

I guess that they need illegals to work in Mammoth because employers there won’t pay proper wages to Americans and legal immigrants?
