Los Angeles wildfire czar’s $500K paycheck for 90 days of work draws swift blowback, mayor reverses course

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass backtracked on Saturday amid reports that her wildfire recovery czar, Steve Soboroff, would be compensated $500,000 for 90 days of work.

The Los Angeles Times first reported Saturday morning that Soboroff, a real estate developer and longtime civic official, would be paid $500,000 over the course of three months for working as the city’s “chief recovery officer.”

His compensation was to come from charity organizations, but Bass, who first tapped Soboroff for the job on Jan. 17, quickly reversed course by Saturday evening. She said Soboroff would now manage the rebuilding of the city free of charge.

“Steve is always there for LA. I spoke to him today and asked him to modify his agreement and work for free. He said yes,” Bass said, according to the Times.

“We agree that we don’t need anything distracting from the recovery work we’re doing.”

Another person, longtime real estate executive Randy Johnson, was to be compensated $250,000 from philanthropic groups for assisting Soboroff, but he too would now do the job for free, Bass said.

On Johnson, Bass said she was “grateful for his generosity and expertise,” but the mayor’s office declined to name the charity organizations or clarify how the funding was raised, according to the Times.

There it is. 10% for the big gal.

Rick Caruso would have done it for free from the start and done it more effectively, but Bass didn’t want to give her opponent the opportunity to outshine her even if it was best for the city.

“”but Bass didn’t want to give her opponent the opportunity to outshine her even if it was best for the city.””

Like any Deep State democRAT, Bass will do what is best for Bass.

Heck, there is the slogan for the next election. “Best For Bass”

Bass’ wildfire recovery czar, Steve Soboroff, was to be compensated $500,000 for 90 days of work.

And a co-worker was tapped to get $250,000 tax dollars.

Bass’ cut must have been a doozie.

After the backlash, Bass called Soboroff and said:

“Look, you SoB, the public is onto us. I’ll just say you’ll work for free to dupe the taxpayers.
You’ll get paid. I’ll get the money from a slush fund I keep when I need to bribe someone.”

“I’m polling at 3%. I don’t need any reelection distractions after I burned down LA.”

Only when caught do they appear to change course.

Personally I would check the bank account of this “philanthropic “ organization.

Dollars to donuts that funding was coming from DEM-AID, amd their might be a hold on pending payment.😎😂

Bass and the Brigade

In the 1970s, Bass participated in the Venceremos Brigade, traveling to Cuba as a young political activist. She was described as a leader of the group in a 1975 communist publication, according to Politico, although her office has denied she ever had that role.

In fact, according to a report published by Tablet Magazine, Bass led the movement’s Southern California operations. In fact, an October 1975 edition of the communist Daily World newspaper described Bass as the “leader of the Venceremos Brigade in southern California.”

Another Ph.D. dissertation documented her as “a ‘brigadista’ and then organizer for the Venceremos Brigades,” saying “Karen visited Cuba every 6 months.”

Bass has stated that her involvement was driven by a desire to build relations between the American and Cuban people, and she has expressed admiration for aspects of the Cuban dictatorship social policies.

It's astonishing how many of the 60s and 70s radicals have risen to influential roles in various U.S. institutions and governments. spit
