This is a natural characteristic of the left. They naturally attract a certain sort of person that will adopt cranky ideas irrelevant to the basic party ideology. Orwell went on about this in “The Road to Wigan Pier” (1937). Its interesting how “modern” a take Orwell had. He sounded just like Carville.
Maybe he should be like Alan Dershowitz? Dersh was a solid Kennedy ultra-liberal Democrat & strong supporter of Clinton/Gore. He still calls himself a Democrat, but he’s fully aboard supporting Trump now. About the only Democrat Dersh supports anymore is RFKJr and RFKJr is about as DINO as they come now.

There used to be the center and the fringe. This worked because the center kept things stable and cleaned up while the fringe came up with new concepts that if they worked were eventually adopted by the center but they did not work they were kept out never to disturb the solid center.
The democrats decided to center the fringe. Once you center the fringe you acquire a new fringe that is even stranger then the fringe you had before. And they decided to center that fringe.
Where before you had a core and a fringe you now have a fringe of a fringe that is running things and no one knows how to keep things cleaned up and running smoothly.
That is why the fringe is coming over to our side, not because we love them but because they understand that we will keep things in the proper order. They may find our side a bit boring but the trash is always picked up on Thursday morning, you don't have to lock your doors during the day and if you hear gun shots it is someone target shooting.
