A lady I worked with immigrated from Russia about 20 years ago. At the airport security went through all their personal belongings. Her husband served as a private in the army and all his pics in uniform were confiscated as state secrets. As was her grandmother’s wedding ring as it belonged to the state. She said they could have stayed, filled out paperwork to get the ring back but it may have added another couple of years to their immigration which they started 10 years previously.
