I remember a similar situation from a couple of years ago. A Corvette owner took his car in for service. A service tech took the car out for 160 MPH test drive. The dealership gave him a new car after the data was confirmed..

Supposedly, the onboard SIM can be disabled by BMW but if you do that then you can’t do a remote start or check the status of the car with the app.

I haven't seen a compelling reason to do it yet.

Thanks - I do check it every so often and, so far, it has stayed off...I guess the biggest threat to it being turned back on would be if any software updates happen.

Yeah - I don’t use the remote start for much but I do like being able to see where the car is and to lock doors and/or roll windows up remotely.

Toyota gives a free year of the app and then charges $15 a month to keep it active - and it includes cloud navigation which is always updated and voice controlled....I’ll probably keep it in force as I hate the android auto app as it takes over the control screen and you have to exit it to bet certain settings back.

My phone app came with 4 year subscription and the same for some of the technology in the car like map updates and traffic flow. The cell service to the car isn’t cutoff after 4 years. I’ll make a renewal decision in 4 years.

I was looking through some paperwork and online app data. Even though I live in the midwest, my new car has a cell number registered in Arizona. Just something to wonder about...
