The 1970s were a hot era for science fiction films that took a decidedly dystopian turn…
With Planet of the Apes at the close of the 60s, films like Soylent Green had infected the mass mind with the threat of the coming apocalypse, to be followed by a spate of 80s post-apocalyptic B movies and cult classics like Mad Max.
One of those highly revelatory 70s films is the 1976 film adaptation of William F. Nolan’s novel, Logan’s Run, directed by Michael Anderson. As with all the dystopian films, especially 70s installments, they all seem to contain a puzzle piece of the overall real-world plan of the technocrats preparing us for the coming of the new aeon.
The setting for Logan’s Run is a technocratic utopian society situated in a self-contained biosphere dome based around a death cult that participates in a monthly ritual (The Carrousel) where all citizens are killed in a “renewal” ceremony reminiscent of a Katy Perry Super Bowl halftime show. Convinced that renewal results in reincarnation, the youth are color-coded to determine their caste, with those reaching 30 considered aged and primed for sacrifice.

Don't know, but other websites say that it was one of the cheesiest movies of the 70s.
Always liked the movie, have fun it is saturday
Decent movie, very cheesy.
I love Logan’s Run. I actually showed it to a lot of my students when I was a teacher. I mean, I had to edit out some parts for nudity, but I felt it was a great movie. Then I’d show them The Truman Show, and we’d compare.
I’d vote against it being pro-life.
Saw that in a theater when it first came out. Liked it.
All I remember is Jenny Agguter
I used to watch the TV series when I was young. The solar powered hover car was cool.
I believe that I saw on the extras that they thought they would have Jon Voight as Logan and William Devane as Francis. Now, that would have been a movie!
When they got Jenny Agutter, it lost its edge and you end up with dystopic Britts caught in a gay love-triangle. Oh, well. It was somewhat bleeding edge, even if it predicted that we would all live in indoor shopping malls.
I have had a lot of fun talking about movies like this with leftists.
I always ask them what kinds of tiny baby steps would likely start a society down that path.
The looks of slow realization on their face is always priceless.
Box the robot was voiced by Roscoe Lee Brown. He was also the cook in the 1972 John Wayne film, “The Cowboys”. What a great voice 👍
What, no THX 1138?
I downloaded and actually enjoyed the television series.
Richard Pryor watched it.
“I watched the movie ‘Logan’s Run,’
“There ain’t no ni–ers in it. I said, ‘White people ain’t planning for us to be here.’ That’s why we gotta make movies.”
She was my first thought when viewed the article!
Fun movie. Irony that they hired actors in their 40s to hunt down ‘runners’ in their 30s.
A truly under appreciated movie.
Went to the show to see this movie. My first date. I liked the movie.
AI... Children of men..How did those movies ever get made? Total garbage. When I saw AI with a date we both walked out. Even Jude Law couldn’t make it interesting.
I always think of that Pryor quote when I hear “Logan’s Run”.
