It all seemed clear to Jared Kushner as he discussed the future of Gaza in an interview at Harvard University last February.
“I’m sitting in Miami Beach right now,” he said, referring to the offices of his new investment firm, Affinity Partners, in the coastal Florida city that has witnessed an eruption of skyscrapers and de-luxe hotels over the last decade.
Mr Kushner’s 11,000 sq ft headquarters boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out over the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
Like Miami, Mr Kushner mused that Gaza possesses “very valuable” waterfront property and could become a hub for tourism – if the Gazan people were relocated, at least temporarily, out of the area.
Prof Tarek Masoud, the interview’s host, appeared shocked at the apparently off-hand remarks by Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
On Tuesday morning, after Donald Trump announced strikingly similar plans to turn Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East”, the world was barely talking about anything else.

Jared Kushner, the architect of many of 45 Trump’s bad ideas. And now he comes up with another. Who would have thought?
Why so nasty?
No nastiness, bucko. Just pointing out there is no basis for your claim.
Well, if so, Kushner has not changed one whit and cemented great reasons to steer clear of him. Trump is probably posturing but Gaza is one of the very last entanglements we need to be involved in more than we are already.
It may have been floated back when Kushner was the special emissary, during term 45. He was basically the man behind the scenes doing the shuttle diplomacy that got the Abraham Accords. The biggest thing to come out of those Accords was not so much peace and normalization between Israel and the four Arab nations. They were not really belligerent anyway. The biggest thing about those Accords was getting these Arab states off the position that the Palestinian issue needs to be resolved first. These countries decided that they would not let the Palestinian cause control their foreign policy and destiny. The idea that waiting for the Palestinians to get themselves organized is more important to Morocco than Morroco’s own self interest was no longer tenable.
I highly doubt that this is ever about nation building like Iraq.
It’s about getting others to do what he wants, creating leverage. He’ll say whatever he thinks will mobilize toward that goal.
Good lord, so many here are going to break their pearls if they clutch them any harder. The stupid party doesn’t just refer to the leaders. Let’s give Trump the benefit of the doubt. It is far more likely that he is “negotiating” with this statement. He is crushing it right now, let’s not throw him out with the bathwater.
I don’t want to lose any soldiers or any any taxpayer money either BUT, let’s be real. The only way to truly fix that hellhole is to empty it of “Palestinians” and cement every tunnel and raze everything above ground. Only the US could pull it off. If that happened, imagine what could happen after that. I am sure Trump will do it with a Sovereign wealth fund or a multiple sovereigns wealth fund. Countries would line up to be a part of true peace in the Middle East with a potential share in a massive ROI.
Basically Karoline Leavitt is saying at her presser, that Gaza is currently uninhabitable, and the residents have to be temporarily displaced so that it can be rebuilt.
Actually, “bucko” is derogatory name-calling language. It’s condescending and entirely unnecessary.
From its common Irish use, it is simply an address for a young man.
And I was giving your perspective the benefit of that assumption.
A negotiating tactic is not a threat. The RATs aren’t going to get their impeachment dreams this go round. Trump hasn’t ethnically cleansed anyone.
Now their boys Fauci and Bill Gates are the people doing that.
Their damn party also crapped on the Gaza and Israel. They played both sides of the fence.
Not being Irish or common I took it differently.
Anyone who considers himself uncommon is likely to feel offended here on one thread or another.
Last word kind of young man I see.
It’s just not Hamas, all Palis need to go.
This, this, and this again.
I will ask the question again
You want to maintain the status quo then?
***********************
Absolutely, keep the status quo if the alternative proposal is worse.
This proposal would stick America in a no win situation with way too many liabilities.
I think Lebanon has nice beachfront, just need to dodge the bombs.
I think this is another
If you don’t do something fast I will do it. —statement by Trump.
Look how fast Mexico and Canada reacted.
“Look how fast Mexico and Canada reacted.”
The problem with that. is it was only the leaders
Im one case, a leader resigned weeks ago
You dissed nations
You are Cuba
