Trump says he wants Ukraine’s rare earth elements as a condition of further support

President Donald Trump on Monday indicated that he wants to reach an agreement with Ukraine to gain access to the country’s rare earth materials as a condition for continuing U.S. support for its war against Russia.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump complained that the U.S. had sent more in military and economic assistance to Ukraine than its European partners, adding, “We’re looking to do a deal with Ukraine where they’re going to secure what we’re giving them with their rare earth and other things.”

Trump suggested that he’s received word from the Ukrainian government that they’d be willing to make a deal to give the U.S. access to the elements critical to the modern high-tech economy.

“I want to have security of rare earth,” Trump added. “We’re putting in hundreds of billions of dollars. They have great rare earth. And I want security of the rare earth, and they’re willing to do it.”

I know something of oil and gas and more or less nothing of REE.

China is often noted as the dominant player, but my vague understanding is this refers mostly to its processing. They are the dominant processor of these, regardless of where the “ore” came from. Certainly so of lithium.

When Gabbard is in place, better briefings will appear to the prez and congress, and then post leak, to the public.

I know that times are tough for neocon weasels and they pin their hopes to anything, no matter how little.

Aren’t the mineral resources in the east of Ukraine?

I’m asking.

Are you okay with Trump cutting off funding for Ukraine?

You said you'd be okay with whatever Trump decided.

I just said I support whatever Trump decides.

Did I stutter?

"Aren’t the mineral resources in the east of Ukraine? I’m asking."

**********************************************

My understanding is that western Ukraine is pretty worthless and that all the minerals are in the Donbas, which is now part of Russia. So Ukraine has no minerals to give.

The only problem is that Russia will own the minerals, not Ukraine.

That's right. I think Russia already has territory for the minerals we need. Our problems is we become fat, dumb and lazy over the years, but we knew this was coming and did nothing about it.

General Kellogg is traveling to Ukraine next week. Putin’s botched invasion is on its last legs.

Yup. It’s a negotiating position far too many are cheering about.

In fact, the near blanket, blind support I’m seeing is rather pathetic.

LONG way to go and I’m interested to see how he plays this.

Skeptical, but interested.

Once they have a revenue stream from selling the rare earths, they might want to settle with Russia in order to keep their fortune. Now that Russia knows about the value of the rare earths they might decide to destroy Ukraine just to get the rare earths...upshot...Ukraine’s sues for peace...keeps its rare earths...just sayin’....if so, quite brilliant way to end a war. Also, Dr. Z takes the loot, snitches on Biden crime family and disappears...win...win...win...

General Kellogg is traveling to Ukraine next week.

Trump & The Putin have this ironed out. Putin keeps all the liberated areas in the east while Zelensky retires to Miami beach and gives piano lessons to little boys.

“Can’t do that. Already sold to Black Rock.”

Know what? I think you are absolutely right. BlackRock went and put dibs on it quite awhile ago... They already have contracts for the “clean up” after it is over...

Yes, in Donbas. Which is one of the reasons Russia seized it.

Not if Trump has set his sights on it.
