Putin calls exclusion from Auschwitz liberation event ‘shameful’

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday not inviting Russia to events marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp was “shameful.”

“As for the invitation and non-invitation to events related to the liberation of Auschwitz, this is, of course, such a strange, shameful thing,” Putin said in an interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin, an excerpt of which was shared on his Telegram account.

“You can have any attitude toward Russia’s policy, toward the head of the Russian state, toward me; no one is begging for any invitation. But if you think about it, you could have acted much more subtly,” Putin further said.

The Russian president argued that if it was no longer possible to invite Soviet soldiers who liberated the camp because of their health or age, their relatives could have at least been invited.

Russia has not been invited to take part in the annual events commemorating Auschwitz’s liberation since the start of the Ukraine war in February 2022.

Why would Russia think it has anything to do with the liberation of Auschwitz?

---- 'Why would Russia think it has anything to do with the liberation of Auschwitz?"

What an interesting question, from the perspective of today.

"As the Soviet Red Army approached Auschwitz in January 1945, toward the end of the war, the SS sent most of the camp's population west on a death march to camps inside Germany and Austria. Soviet troops entered the camp on 27 January 1945, a day commemorated since 2005 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day."

"As Soviet armies advanced in 1944 and early 1945, Auschwitz was gradually abandoned. On January 18, 1945, some 60,000 prisoners were marched to Wodzisław Śląski, where they were put on freight trains (many in open cars) and sent westward to concentration camps away from the front. One in four died en route from starvation, cold, exhaustion, and despair. Many were shot along the way in what became known as the 'death marches.' The 7,650 sick or starving prisoners who remained were found by arriving Soviet troops on January 27, 1945.

Didn’t the Soviets invade Poland before the Nazis?

And stick religious Jews in gulags?

And 100% escape justice?

---- "Snubbed like a dog."

Interesting. Did you notice that the media you cited also had a related story, noted as "recommended?"

"Netanyahu skips Auschwitz event over ICC arrest fear."
And the same media led to another article, titled:
"G7 to 'comply with obligations' over Netanyahu ICC arrest warrant"
Nothing says "80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp" like ignoring the history of its actual liberation and the threat to arrest a Jewish political leader. Yea! Virtue signaling for the rubes.

Someone once wrote about controlling history, by changing it.

“...the Party member, like the proletarian, tolerates present-day conditions because he has no standards of comparison. He must be cut off from the past, just as he must be cut off from foreign countries, because it is necessary for him to believe that he is better off than his ancestors and that the average level of material comfort is constantly rising.”

It was the Russians who liberated Auschwitz. Let's not forget that.

It's not just a snub of Putin.

The Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz. U.S. troops liberated Buchenwald.

Perhaps a history lesson needed for some.

---- "Didn't the Soviets invade Poland before the Nazis?"

Close, which is why history and its verifiable details should be remembered.

"On 17 September 1939, the Soviet Union invaded Poland from the east, 16 days after Nazi Germany invaded Poland from the west."

History for some here is made up as they go along.
Depending on their political or religious proclivities.
