I’m all for Americans learning more languages, and schools to have robust foreign language electives — we need English as an official marker of national cohesion and citizenship.

It would be kind of nice, however, for Americans to be able to use their own language properly.

News to me. I thought English already was our official language. Just as with aviation, I’ve been told, all the commands and responses for pilots is taught in English, so that internationally, everyone up there is theoretically able to communicate. I don’t know if this is still the case today. Probably not. The ‘Patriarchy’ connection may be problematic for some new pilots.

The Treaty of Hidalgo recognizes Spanish in the purchased territories.

I for one am sick to death of pressing 1 for English and seeing spanish on a myriad of forms and documents.

Has DJT mentioned this at all?

I think we should make Swedish the official language.

I thought English already was our official language.

So why doe California bring ballots in 50 or 60 languages?

English as the official language has been derailed for years by democrats having learned their tactics from the Tower of Babble story in the Bible.

I do not think so, we should make American the language, we have diverged from the language spoken in England.

Being in a state that made English it’s official language I will now list everything that actually changed, for better or worse:

Yep, nothing. It was a pointless and silly exercise and would be on the national level too.

I think English should be the official language, but in a nation filled with Democrats, they’ll surely ruin this regardless.

Can you imagine a government agency that determines the acceptable lexicon, spelling, grammar, and punctuation rules for the English language?

The left already weaponizes language and would certainly use the power to determine the official language to do it more.

My great grandfather and his wife spoke Welsh and English. They insisted that their children speak only English to ensure they prospered in American society. All of them did.

I regularly study foreign languages. German is my primary focus. Welsh and Scots Gaelic are 2nd. I still put effort into Spanish, Italian and French. Each has its merits and charm and cultural underpinnings.

Don't lose your heritage, but also don't miss out on succeeding by being fluent in the dominant language of your country.
