Syria’s Ahmad al-Sharaa asks Russia to handover exiled leader Bashar al-Assad: Report

Syria's de facto leader Ahmad al-Sharaa has requested Russia to hand over exiled leader Bashar al-Assad, according to a report by Reuters. The former Syrian president, a key Russian ally in the Middle East, fled to Moscow last year after being ousted in a rebel offensive that ended five decades of rule by the Assad family.

Syrian news agency Sana said Damascus also wanted Russia, which backed Bashar al-Assad in the country's civil war, to rebuild trust through "concrete measures such as compensation, reconstruction and recovery".

A high-level Russian delegation in Syria expressed support for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity following the fall of Bashar al-Assad, Moscow's foreign ministry said Wednesday.

Reuters reports that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on the request from al-Sharaa to hand over Bashar al-Assad.

Russia sent its first high-level delegation to the war-torn country on Tuesday, with Moscow keen to retain two military bases in Syria.

If Assad had simply practiced neutrality against Israel, and focused 100% on economic issues, he would still be the dictator of Syria.

Kill individuals perhaps, but not well armed and well trained military.

If Assad had made a convincing case for neutrality, Israel would have protected him.

If Assad had made a convincing case for economic development and standard of living, a solid majority of Syria would have supported him.

Assad practices neutrality towards Israel. And if one thinks that a Turkish controlled Al-Qaeda faction in charge is better then he is not smart.

You are correct. It was my understanding that many trying to overthrow him were not Syrians. Mideast countries are run by dictators and Assad was one of the better ones. He was neutral towards Israel and allowed open Christianity. This chaos all goes back to the “arab spring”. It just took longer for Syria to fall.

God bless and protect Israel.

What is Russian inrerest? There is a mission creep situation on behalf of Turkey. They wanted Aleppo but their proxies took the entire country. A country destroyed economically with the oil and agri areas controlled by the US proxies. Iran used to feed Syria. Now Turkey has to do it but it is dirt port itself. Trump said he is moving troops out meaning Turkey is likely to get Syria wheat and oil under control. Which spells disaster for Israel.

"Therefore, it is not surprising that the 157th OMBR fell apart upon arrival in Pokrovsk. According to some reports, the brigade soldiers looked at their trenches — and quickly left their positions."
