In his first remarks as President Donald Trump’s defense secretary, Pete Hegseth referred to two U.S. military bases by their former Confederate names, appearing to hint that he might possibly restore them.
Speaking to reporters on Monday ― his first day on the job after being narrowly confirmed by the Senate ― the National Guard veteran laid out what he envisions for the Pentagon under Trump’s administration. Hegseth expressed support for the president’s executive orders that would scrap the military’s diversity and inclusion initiatives, reinstate soldiers “who were pushed out because of COVID mandates” and create an Iron Dome-like missile defense system for the United States.
“Every moment that I’m here, I’m thinking about the guys and gals in Guam, in Germany, Fort Benning and Fort Bragg, on missile defense sites and aircraft carriers,” the former Fox News host said. “Our job is lethality and readiness and war-fighting.” …

IMO, the South's best generals were:
Robert E. Lee
Stonewall Jackson
Nathan Bedford Forrest
Patrick Cleburne
Jeb Stuart
Many thought Albert Sidney Johnston was the best but he caught a bullet behind his right knee in his first major battle (Shiloh) and died so its impossible to tell.
Works for me
👍
While the “Gulf of America” and renaming Denali (most Alaskans prefer that name) are silly, the undoing of the four years of name changes by the Biden administration are not.
Every single post, street, or other item including USS Chancelorsville, renamed under DOD needs to be restored.
Every single name change forced by Deb Haaland at the Department of the Interior needs to be reversed. This should apply to every other US government department.
The US also needs to force the name back onto the stern of the museum ship USCGC Taney. Taney was an idiot, but ship was named for his service as Treasury secretary, and the ship has a glorious service record. Taking the name off is an insult to her and her crew.
Yep.
I think Hegseth is sharp enough, and astute enough to do that.
I just cannot stomach the whitewashing of history because some group or some person thinks history should have been different. History is what it was.
Not what someone wants it to have been.
It reminds me too much of the job Winston Smith, and thousands or millions like him did in Orwell’s “1984”. That continual scrubbing and manipulation of history, directed by the inner party members higher up, that it gets to the point there is no such thing as history, but the continuous painting of a canvas to suit the current need, which I find abhorrent.
The whole concept is completely Leftist in concept and execution, and is justified wholly with the ends justifying the ideologic means.
And in real life, we see that with the Taliban dynamiting the giant sculptures in Afghanistan, with an added element of venomous hate mixed in.
History and reality can be very uncomfortable, emotional, and extremely inconvenient things.
But what is worse is being so cowardly that you cannot squarely look those things in the face.
And what is even worse than that, is being so evil that you wish to shape and manipulate it to facilitate the acquisition and wielding of power.
Because in the end, the two most valuable things about history are appreciating it and celebrating when things worked out well, and using it to best understand and avoid the terrible things so you don’t repeat them.
The name changes were always stupidity personified. The vast majority of Americans had no idea who those installations were named after or why. Furthermore, they didn’t care.
NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I haven't seen the book but he gave a talk on the subject which was on C-SPAN a few days ago. He admires Lee very much and made a good case generally about not cancelling history. He sounded like an anti-woke conservative.
I knew Mike Novosel. I have no problem with naming an installation after him. Very few I can think of deserve the honor more.
But you’re delusional if you think anyone who’s ever been stationed there is going to call Mother Rucker anything other than Mother Rucker.
Never let the democrats win.
