Moscow has had many chances but repeatedly failed to shed its imperial skin. Defeats in the Crimean War and the Russo-Japanese War did not prompt a reckoning. Unlike Spain, Portugal or Belgium, which relinquished colonies and transitioned into post-imperial nations, Russia viewed its losses as temporary setbacks. Even the Soviet Union’s collapse after the humiliating defeat in Afghanistan didn’t extinguish this imperial ethos.
Russia’s forerunner, Muscovy owed its rise in the 13th century to the role of a tax collector for the Golden Horde, allowing its princes to amass wealth and outmaneuver rivals. In contrast, Kyiv had already thrived for 600 years as a cultural and political hub before Moscow, founded in 1147, even emerged from servitude.
In 1547, Ivan IV (“the Terrible”) pulled off one of history’s greatest cons. Crowning himself “Tsar of All Rus,” he declared Moscow the rightful heir to Kyivan Rus, vaulting over five centuries of separation with a golden crown as a prop. At first, Europe refused to play along. Diplomats, travelers and scholars continued to refer to the realm as “Moscovia,” seen in the maps and manuscripts from the time. The name “Rus” was not inherited from Kyiv — it was stolen.

Do you realize how stupid that sounds? It has been 80 years dude.
The Russian military plan to overthrow the Ukraine government flopped badly. They failed to take over the Kyiv airport, and things went downhill from there.
I don't know what you're getting at but Nazi's are leftist pops.
Too bad it wasn't the spirit of Norvogord or Kiev that ended up dominating Russia. Instead, it was the autocratic spirit of the Mongols and Czars that survived in the Russian psyche.
“According to the idea of the NSDAP [Nazi party], we are the German left. Nothing is more hateful to us than the right-wing national ownership block.”
Joseph Goebbels, Der Angriff (The Attack, Berlin newspaper of the National Socialist party, 6 December 1931)
That’s not a condensed timeline, it’s a cherry-picked timeline.
Are a paid shill—or just kicking in voluntarily?
That's my point. Words. But HOW?
Easter, this year being 20 April Julian, is a fine "soon." But like so many predictions of what tomorrow brings, predictions are generalized words. And more words, always short on detail.
You added a date to Chakhoyan's "What this aggressive re-colonizer requires, more than anything, is a resounding defeat." Not much else, except laying it in the lap of President Trump.
200+ nations in the world, with the US' population being about 4% of the whole, why is it we're supposed to end the war anyway?
The EU is significantly larger than the US, and Europe as whole is even larger a population. About twice the US. China is three times, as is India. So this war -- some want to date it from 2014 and some from 2022 -- is almost four years old.
Trump's administration is a week old. I supposes then that Biden, Blinken, Nuland, Ursula von der Leyen, Scholz, Macron, Starmer, Tusk and a bunch of others didn't want to "end the war?" Or couldn't? Chakhoyan hasn't a plan. You've no plan, but a date. You've handed it to the week-old Trump administration.
I wager the war will end -- all wars do -- and not as many have "planned." How? I have no clue, no date, and no expectation that "by Easter" is a plan.
I also wager that lots more words will be loaded into the artillery pieces and fired at the problem in short order. Words seem to be the ammunition no one ever runs out of these days.
Who is going to push Ruzzia out of YouCrayne?
The invasion was due to the breakdown in negotiations over Russia’s continued use of the base at Sevastopol.
Russia ended the negotiations by taking Crimea.
Note that natural gas still continued to flow through Ukraine to Europe via the pipeline.
I disagree with the article. Russia is a member of BRICS and the war against Ukraine was an attempt to displace the Dollar as the world’s central currency.
What was SUPPOSED to happen, is that Russia was to take over Ukraine and use the oil and energy resources to leverage NATO to stay out of China’s invasion of Tiawan. But the “shock and awe” that was supposed to happen ... didn’t. This was a gross miscalculation by Russian generals. Now Russia is stuck in a meet grinder, trench warfare that has used up much of Russia’s offensive capabilities and manpower.

Hysterical how people think if they insist “Russia bad” long enough, the money will keep flowing and defeat will follow. War is not an episode of Superman. Bad countries can win wars just as easily as good ones.
Art of the Deal. Modified Istanbul Communique framework.
So are you saying that we should attack Russians and kill them by the millions because they have some Asian genetics? You are obviously ignorant that everyone in Europe has some Asian genetic heritage since the Yamnaya (the Aryans) came out of the central Asian steppes and conquered Europe 5500 years ago.
You are a mad, ranting dog.
And that assessment comes from the fact that 95% of Russian population were illiterate and oppressed up until 1917 and became less illiterate, but even more oppressed after 1917, for seventy years. Majority of humans living there simply didn’t have time to become civilized and start respecting basic humanitarian concepts like freedom of speech, religious freedoms, rule of law, etc.
