Trump fires at least 17 independent inspectors general

President Donald Trump fired 17 independent watchdogs at multiple government agencies on Friday, a person with knowledge of the matter said, eliminating a critical oversight component and clearing the way to replace them with loyalists.

The inspectors general at agencies including the departments of state, defense and transportation were notified by emails from the White House personnel director that they had been terminated immediately, the source said on condition of anonymity.

The dismissals appeared to violate federal law, which requires the president to give both houses of Congress reasons for the dismissals 30 days in advance.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

An inspector general is an independent position that conducts audits and investigations into allegations of waste, fraud and abuse of power.

Agencies are pressing ahead with orders from Trump, who returned to the presidency on Monday, to reshape the federal bureaucracy by scrapping diversity programs, rescinding job offers and sidelining more than 150 national security and foreign policy officials.

Friday’s dismissals spared the Department of Justice inspector general, Michael Horowitz, according to the New York Times.

The Washington Post, which was first to report the dismissals, said most were appointees from Trump’s 2017-2021 first term.

Rush Limbaugh painted a profile of President Trump. He only needs about 5 hours of sleep a night. He never drinks. He never smokes. He works, and he works, and he works. After the 2016 election, within 48 hours, he did what he has done for decades; he simply went back to work. He met with industries and convinced them to remain in America. Hussein had criticised him during the campaign about “waving a magic wand” to make jobs in America. After the 2016 election, the Drive-By Media complained that there should only be one President at a time.

After the 2024 election, President Trump was meeting with all kinds of foreign leaders. No one complained that he was not President yet. They knew Biden was just a place holder for the Deep State Cabal.

President Trump has shown regular Americans how to challenge the Deep State. He has shown that we can challenge RINOs in the primaries. The Drive-By Media is withering on the vine.

That is exactly what Trump intends. Characteristically, when Democrats are in office, the inspector generals timidly nibble at the ends and edges of issues and then put out mild reports, usually long after the harm has been done. With Trump in office, the incumbent inspector generals were previously and would again be fonts of political hits and smears against him.

Not again. In his new term, Trump is going through the current federal bureaucracy like a developer clearing valuable real estate prior to rebuilding. New inspector generals will be selected and charged with digging through the federal bureaucracy for waste, fraud, and abuse. That is what they were intended to do in the first place.

If fjb kept a Trump appointee they have bad written all over them. I expect many of these "firings" are not fired at all in the sense that we are familiar with. Instead, many are removed from their job while continuing to be paid until they are reassigned, if there is a place for them, terminated as they are redundant or resign not wanting to change jobs. If they are civil service they can bump anyone who is less senior from a job they are qualified for if they are willing to make that move.

I expect most if not all of the DEI types will be on payroll for sometime awaiting final determination of relocation or termination, enforced or self-determined.

It is a good list. Somebody, you, finally put a name to the “they” who have been running the government the last four years. There are others such as Ron Klain and then there is George Soros in the mix somewhere. “They” and the others are all listed in the White House visitor logs if they have not been altered or destroyed.
