Yes, AFAIK, you have to have REAL ID to fly (I think it becomes mandatory in 2025 at some point(?))

I had one on a state ID which interfered with my DL. NOW you cannot have both IDs - I used the state ID for all non-DL transactions. Now they don’t allow it. So I have just my DL now with the REAL ID.
