Melania Trump has a new look.
As the incoming first lady walked into St. John’s, the Episcopal church in Lafayette Square, she cut the figure of a mafia widow or high-ranking member of an obscure religious order, and a bit of “My Fair Lady.” She wore a sharply tailored navy coat, with a soft white silk crepe blouse peeking out from beneath the collar, and a huge navy boater trimmed with a white band. In a rare showing of bipartisanship from the fashion industry, which had very publicly thrown its weight behind Kamala Harris, the ensemble is by American designer Adam Lippes, whose quiet and meticulous clothes are worn by socialites such as Deeda Blair and Princess Eugenie of Britain. The hat is by Eric Javits.
“The tradition of the presidential inauguration embodies the beauty of American democracy and today we had the honor to dress our first lady, Mrs. Melania Trump,” Lippes said in a statement. “Mrs. Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest craftsmen and I take great pride in showing such work to the world.”
In what’s becoming a style signature, Melania Trump yanked the hat down over her head, the brim casting an elusive shadow over her face and shielding her eyes.
It’s a striking contrast from the look she crafted for the inauguration in 2017, working then as now with her stylist, French designer Herve Pierre, and American designer Ralph Lauren. That ensemble sought to conjure the polished optimism of Jackie Kennedy: a powder blue cashmere dress with a matching bolero and opera gloves. It was approachable and joyful, if a bit rich.
For her second round as first lady, the fashion game — the tool she brandishes most often and most forcefully, even if the public sometimes struggles…

My stepdaughter (age 34) thought she looked like a dominatrix. She thinks Melania has a special room where she disciplines Donald.
She voted Trump and is mostly conservative, so I thought that was an interesting take, and possibly a window into the recesses of her mind. :-)
I thought Melania looked just the right amount of badass, and was making a statement with that hat. As in, “Don’t mess with me.”
It was a beautiful classic look, that was clearly chosen to communicate a change in mindset.
Not at all unexpected considering everything that has happened since 2015.
The left is truly astonishing in their selective memory loss, e.g. the Democrat Senators asking AG Pam Bondi if she will do what AG Merrick Garland has been doing for 4 years! and their attempts to make us forget that any of it occurred.
Also, as another FReeper said yesterday, she may have wanted all of the focus to be on DJT, which, when you are as beautiful as Melania is - is a loving generous choice.
Thank You Lord for not throwing in the towel on us yet!

Did anyone else notice that they didn’t use the “hitler” label ?
Or do they label Our FLOTUS as eva braun ?
I’d also not want to look at those swamp rats that tried to ruin/imprison/kill her husband. It was a perfect look/function.
she should wear Hugo Boss. Who was the designer/tailor to many senior NAZI officials. That would throw them for a loop!
she cut the figure of a mafia widow??
No, that was Bezos wife who looked like a cheap hooker
Now that’s funny!
I remember that one and the media lapped it up as so hip! 🤮
I didn’t know that.
I was referring to the A$$M€D!A always calling President Trump hitler
Ah yes, old hooker chic.
You are perceptive! I did cadge that verbiage from Braveheart.
I consider Melania Trump to be beautiful, graceful, intelligent and aesthetically astute; I would not rule out her also being perfectly capable of defenestrating Rachel Tashjian (metaphorically, of course) without much fuss.
I love having a First Lady who has her own stable of designers...
No matter how much you hate the press, it is not enough.
Told my wife Melania was going for the beautiful Zorro look...and getting it done in style.
But Jill’s Hooker look was just fine.
And that lard ass, Mike, wore clothing that I swear would not have been sold at flea market.
