Cancer cells express an abnormal metabolism characterized by increased glucose consumption owing to genetic mutations and mitochondrial dysfunction. Previous studies indicate that unlike healthy tissues, cancer cells are unable to effectively use ketone bodies for energy.
Furthermore, ketones inhibit the proliferation and viability of cultured tumor cells. As the Warburg effect is especially prominent in metastatic cells, we hypothesized that dietary ketone supplementation would inhibit metastatic cancer progression in vivo.

I know this is 10 years old. However it is a topic that is new to me. I welcome any thoughts from others.
Otto Warburg discovered that cancer cells display a unique metabolic phenotype of lactate fermentation in the presence of oxygen. This phenotype, known as the Warburg effect, enables tumor visualization using fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) scans owing to the elevated rate of glucose consumption in most cancers.
Metabolic therapies can exploit this phenotype, offering novel therapeutic directions aside from the classically targeted cytotoxic and gene-based therapies. The Warburg effect exposes a fundamental weakness of cancer cells, reliance on excess glucose for survival and maximal proliferation.
Fasting, calorie restriction (CR) and the carbohydrate-restricted ketogenic diet have been successfully used to limit glucose availability and slow cancer progression in a variety of animal models and human studies.1–9 These dietary manipulations produce a physiological metabolic shift to an unfavorable environment for glucose-dependent cancer cells.
Previously, the anticancer effects of these dietary manipulations have largely been attributed to decreased circulating blood glucose, which limits energy substrates for cancer cells. New evidence suggests, however, that the physiological state of ketosis and elevated circulating ketones also have anticancer effects.
This is why a PET scan works to locate cancer in the body.
“Interestingly, the study found that the most important factor dictating the patients’ response to therapy was the degree of elevated ketosis from baseline.
Indeed, a prominent metabolic shift to higher levels of ketosis correlated with reduced disease progression, stable disease or partial regression.”

Cancer and the Keto Diet
There is interest in how a ketogenic diet may help treat some types of cancer. One theory is that cancer feeds on the sugar you eat, but a high-fat diet starves the tumors.
So far, no major cancer group recommends keto diets for either prevention or treatment of cancer.
How Keto May Affect Cancer
The standard diet recommendation is to limit fats to no more than 30% of your calories. Carbs should make up half or more of your daily total, with protein filling the rest.
But a keto diet flips that formula. You eat as much as 90% of your diet in fats, with little or almost no carbs from foods like pasta, beans, and fruits.
Without enough carbs, your body switches to burning fat for fuel. That process, called ketosis, breaks the fat down into molecules called ketones.
But cancer cells are rewired to get most of their energy by quickly breaking down lots of glucose, a form of carbohydrates called simple sugar. A keto diet may shortcut the feeding because some cancers can’t use ketones to grow.
That has led to hopes that a ketogenic diet may help boost the powers of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments.
What the Research Says
Studies have suggested some possible benefits of a very low-carb diet in cancer therapy. Research on mice and small trials on humans show that a keto diet may work in several ways. It may:
Slow tumor growth
Protect healthy cells from damage from chemotherapy or radiation treatment
Help anti-cancer drugs work faster or better
Ease inflammation, which can encourage cancer growth
Help prevent weight gain during and after chemotherapy for breast cancer. Extra weight raises the chance that tumors may come back.
There have not been any large studies in humans yet, so we don’t know for sure if and how keto diets work against cancer. Several clinical trials are ongoing.
Unanswered Questions
Cancer is a complicated disease. Many types and subtypes of cancer can strike in different places, including organs, tissue, bone, and blood. And the same cancer can act differently from one person to the next.
Research so far suggests that if and how the keto diet helps fight cancer may depend on many things. Here are some of the key riddles that scientists are trying to solve:
What types of cancer can keto help ease?
Some of the strongest reports of keto’s possible benefits have come from glioblastoma, a very aggressive brain cancer. But it doesn’t seem to work on other kinds of brain cancer. There has been very limited evidence that a high-fat, low-carb diet may help suppress solid cancers in the prostate, breast, stomach, and liver.
But researchers have not ruled out the possibility that a keto diet may actually worsen your cancer by promoting tumor growth. And very low-fat diets have been shown to lower the chances that certain types of breast cancer may come back.
Many people who recover from COVID-19 continue to suffer from various long-term health problems, collectively known as Long COVID. One of the most concerning issues is persistent hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar.
A viral infection can temporarily increase your blood sugar level. This is because your immune system releases hormones to fight off illness, which can raise your blood sugar.
Can HbA1c increase after COVID?
Association between HbA1c levels, random blood glucose levels, and Covid-19 infection.
In the present study, 32% of them turned into borderline diabetic by considering their HbA1c levels, and 10% of study participants had HbA1c levels elevated compared to normal (even after 3 months of post-recovery period).
Conclusions and Summary
Covid-19 infection has an impact on blood sugar levels and altered glycemic control, switching a few individuals into diabetic and a significant number of individuals into the pre-diabetic state, who are non-diabetic individuals before Covid-19 infection.
The study participants comprised mostly middle age group males and females (mostly in 40–60 years, with 60% of them being females).
Most of the study subjects were healthy, and 58% of them have normal HbA1c levels. 32% of them are border line diabetic.
The prevalence of diabetes post Covid-19 infection is 10%.
The majority of participants have normal random blood sugar levels (around 92%), and very less individuals have abnormal random blood sugar levels (2% of the subjects).
There is no significant association between hypertension and raised blood sugar levels post Covid-19 infection.
In the General/Chat forum, on a thread titled Ketone supplementation decreases tumor cell viability and prolongs survival of mice with metastatic cancer, mewzilla wrote: From last year. I'm wondering if the info contained in this paper, along with the info in your thread might explain sone if the turbo cancers in CoupFlu vaxxed patients... Interesting observation. I think you've hit upon a contributer. There are sections of a gene associated with cancer, I think it's SV40, in the vax - so that's part of it. But I've read recently that cancer cells are fueled by glucose and glutamate.
I’ve been on a Keto diet for almost 8 years. My diagnosis was Feb of 2017, stage 4 prostate cancer, mets to bone. I am living a less vigorous life, but my PSA levels are not measurable at this moment. I credit my diet and my treatment protocol. Go KETO.
As I recall, SV40 stands for “Simeon Virus 40” and it was accidently included in the polio virus that was given to 120 million people in the 1950’s.
“Cancer risk associated with simian virus 40 contaminated polio vaccine”
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10472327/
Abstract
“The presence of SV40 in monkey cell cultures used in the preparation of the polio vaccine from 1955 through 1961 is well documented. Investigations have consistently demonstrated the oncogenic behavior of SV40 in animal models.”
“Recently, investigators have provided persuasive evidence that SV40 is present in human ependymomas, choroid plexus tumors, bone tumors, and mesotheliomas, however, the etiologic role of the virus in tumorigenesis has not been established.”
Conclusions: These data suggest that there may be an increased incidence of certain cancers among the 98 million persons exposed to contaminated polio vaccine in the U.S.; further investigations are clearly justified.

On a separate note:
The Cutter Incident was a 1955 polio vaccine scandal in which some batches of the vaccine contained live polio virus. The incident led to the creation of a stronger system for regulating vaccines.

PS. love your screen name.
The Cutter polio vaccine was contaminated with simian virus 40 (SV40) in the 1950s and 1960s. The contamination was due to the use of monkey kidney cells in the vaccine production process.
For a few years I’ve heard that cancer cells feed on sugar. Sounds like this is similar.
The last link I posted, “Historical Vaccine Concerns” contains an excellent summary of problems encountered with various vaccines over the past 75 years.
Anyone who claims to be blindly pro vaccine should read this.
The sad part of it is the the safety protocols put in place as a result of these disasters was ignored with the Covid vaccine.
My daughter’s career is in pharmaceutical production. Earlier in her career she was working with one of the big pharma companies producing a vaccine, and she reported her boss for purposely violating contaminating production safety protocols. (I’m purposely not mentioning the specific vaccine or company)
The company did not address the issue and just transferred her to another department. Shortly thereafter, the same guy was caught on video contaminating a batch of virus that cost the company millions. She quit the company and found a better job with Nova Nordisk where she was involved in building the Ozembic production facility, and now in its production.
I made the mistake of giving her the book “Hot Zone” by Richard Preston, a true story about an airborne Ebola virus outbreak in a primate clearing facility in Reston Virginia, when she was in college. It guided her research which included genetic engineering relating to the malaria virus as an employee of NIH as an intern, which then led to similar research at med school.
Many of you are aware of my unusual ability to perceive consciousness. I’ve never stated this publically before, but I perceive a separate consciousness for viruses. When I reach into them, it feels as though I am reaching into a swarm of gnats, like a buzzing cloud. This cloud moves into people when they have the virus. It’s just an observation and I don’t fully understand it yet.
It makes sense though as all life must have consciousness to survive. Without it, there is no life. This is not just true with humans, but all forms of life.
At UNC Chapel Hill, where I live, there are four pharmacists that specialize in vaccines for world travel. In 1999, just prior to traveling to Southeast Asia for two months, I consulted with them and received a whole series of vaccinations for all sorts of diseases, prior to my travel in January/ February 2020. I ended up getting full blown Covid in Thailand in January 2020 in Bangkok Thailand. ( I can thank them for my taking the Hydroxychloroquine with me on the trip as a prophylactic for malaria, as I traveled by boat down the Meking River through several countries where malaria is a problem. It really helped with Covid.)
For some reason unknown to me, in December 2019 I purchased a med school textbook on viruses and began studying them in depth, even learning the Baltimore virus classification system. This topic fascinates me.
PS. I had no idea that Ralph Baric who was working with gain of function Covid research with the Wuhan Lab was here at UNC Chapel Hill.
Yes. That’s how PET scans locate cancer in the body. They give you a radioactive sugar and then scan the body to see where it is located. Since cancer consumes sugar, the radioactive sugar lights up the scan wherever there is cancer.
My brother in law is a Radiologist who is board certified in Nuclear Medicine. I recently attended a radiology conference lecture he did on the history of PET scan development. He is now working with beta testing AI assisted PET scans as they give far more and more accurate detail.
Interesting. The new technology in radiology saved my life, I believe. It detected a very small malignancy in my breast that never would’ve been noticed five years earlier.
I did well on a keto diet for about six months a couple years ago and probably will try to do it again. Strange, though. I lost 25 pounds, but it decreased my glucose number by only 2.
It’s hard considering my love affair with potatoes and pasta.
