Geez....No one should die in these fires. I’m sure every death was preventable. We need to scour the records and find out about the people and their circumstances. Very sad...

These types of disasters are the perfect opportunity to ‘disappear’... Collect on your life insurance through a trusted family member, and then enjoy the rest of your life in Thailand.

That’s true enough... A lot of them likely stayed behind to protect their belongings. When it comes to stuff vs. living... I would always opt for living. You can always get more stuff.

Man if you were running away from bill collectors you could walk into Mexico and establish an ID somewhere else. Then apply for asylum when coming back. I’d be wearing gloves everywhere. On second thought I wouldn’t return.

Looks like most, if not all, of the missing are elderly and/or bedridden.

What a way to die.

Sickening.

Blessings to the families who have to process the loss.

Kinda figured...Just heard the story of a man who came to LA looking for his 85 year old father. Finally, he found him at the house. His caretaker had not shown up. Just sad...

Meanwhile the devastation from Hurricane Helene has lost media interest. Thousands suffering and freezing in tents 120 days later…..oh, but some celebrities mansions burned down! Let’s focus on that.

If the state of California actually had a concrete statewide plan on how to deal with wildfires including evacuations we wouldn’t have seen pictures of people escaping heater skelter from Pacific Palisades and forced to abandon their cars and walk on foot to escape the flames.

Oh sorry. We’re talking California here. Based on an earlier post it’s the evil oil companies who must bear the responsibility of these tragic fires in LA, and we need to overlook the incompetence and negligence of state and LA government authorities who still don’t know how to handle a yearly natural occurrence.

“man who came to LA looking for his 85 year old father. Finally, he found him at the house.”

That is why I remain convinced the fatality numbers are still far below what the final figures will look like...

Senior or disabled citizens dependent on others for transportation were not going anywhere...

Anything you have of enough value to you to want to stay and save should have been moved to a safe location at the start of this, or at least packed up to be able to grab on your way out.

Same with people who live in tornado alley.

Keep your valuables in a safe place underground.

I agree....Very sad...we need to have some kind of system.....registration for checks...families lived around the corner years ago...not today...my sons are in Virginia...my daughter is in Massachusetts.

We watch each other by playing Wordle and Connections every morning.
