A SpaceX Starship prototype failed in space minutes after launching from Texas on Thursday, forcing airline flights over the Gulf of Mexico to alter course to avoid falling debris and setting back Elon Musk's flagship rocket program. SpaceX mission control lost contact with the newly upgraded Starship, carrying its first test payload of mock satellites, eight minutes after liftoff from its South Texas rocket facilities at 5:38 p.m. EST (2238 GMT).

Premature detonation, story of my life.
Sabotage?.......
Has anyone confirmed that video is in fact the breakup of Musk’s Starship...?
Well, a certain James Bond movie also comes to mind...
Sabotage?.......“
I think it’s a real possibility.
Oh no a failure! Thank God NASA never had one.
Any drones around?
The booster catch was nifty to see.
Must be a little painful for Musk and his SpaceX staff after seeing Bezos’ success yesterday.
Musks comment certainly implies that it is his.
From X “Success is uncertain, entertainment is guaranteed”
Bidens goons shot it down
No. Just a more robust test of capabilities. I watched the liftoff video. Lots of new stuff to test on a larger, improved ship. It went faster, higher, and did more than previous flights. The others were sub-orbital and came back at a lesser speed. This one was in a near orbital configuration, with experimental metal heat tiles and different wings. The higher speed and hotter plasma did it in on re-entry. SpaceX will use the data to improve the next test version.
That was my first thought, sabotage.
No. Musk congratulated Bezos. And Bezos' booster failed on re-entry attempt, never made it close to the barge for a test landing, broke up on re-entry. Half-failure, half-success, similar to the Starship situation.
That’s “Gulf of AMERICA,” schmucks.

Preliminary indication is that we had an oxygen/fuel leak in the cavity above the ship engine firewall that was large enough to build pressure in excess of the vent capacity.
Apart from obviously double-checking for leaks, we will add fire suppression to that volume and probably increase vent area. Nothing so far suggests pushing next launch past next month.
