Scott Bessent said the US should increase sanctions on Russian oil producers to force Moscow to negotiate with Ukraine as he criticised the Biden administration for not being tougher on Vladimir Putin’s regime.
The comments on Thursday by Donald Trump’s nominee to be Treasury secretary pushed up oil prices, as traders considered the prospect of tighter global crude supply. The new administration is also expected to target Iranian and Venezuelan oil with tougher sanctions as Trump seeks to increase economic pressure on the US’s adversaries.

I think a price cap is in order.
Oh just great. This Bessent ( he worked for Soros at one time) pick is going to be another poor pick. Another Rex Tillerson? I thought President Trump learned his last term .
This sanction attitude is resulting in much higher energy bills- Trump had better get drilling.
Drill baby, drill!
“I thought President Trump learned his last term.” Evidently not. And we all had such high hopes . . .
This loser is an awful pick.
Sanctions should be significantly limited
The nominee said if it helps end The Ukraine war he’d be willing to do it.
Carrot and stick. Art of the Deal.
Only four more days to end it.
Instead of continually false flagging Russia’s role in our elections, we should be removing our existing sanctions and trying to bring Russia into an alliance of nations opposing the one world LGBT socialists in the EU. Russia is not our ideological enemy. Obama started the conflict by instigating a coup against an elected pro-Russian government on Russia’s border. Meanwhile, we do little about the far greater threats of China and Muslim nations.
It would be nice if what the FT was quoting was included. From what I heard reported earlier, he said that (paraphrasing) he would support additional sanctions if that is what the President ordered. That is, he was indicating a willingness to do it rather than advocating the policy. Which, if that is all he said, is a quite different thing.
It’s useless suggestion given that every possible sanction has been implemented already and none of which have worked.

Him, and I am worried about Marco Polo (Rubio)..
Yep.
He’s a homosexual poofter from South Carolina, home of Mace, Graham and Scott, he’s married to a man, and has two purloined children. Worked for Soros, went to Yale, contributed to Obama and Hillary, and is a big supporter of Ukraine. How in the hell did this clown get nominated?
You don’t get the set a price cap between the seller and their willing buyer. It’s a world market.
