"Reasoning" Artificial Intelligence is just around the corner. I've been giving thought to possible career paths in this environment.
AI will be producing code, shortly, to address business needs based on a prompt. One cannot be sure the code will meet those business needs.
Enter the AI Code Auditor.
This individual will assess the code to determine if it meets the needs of the business partners. They will refine the business prompt to ensure the code generated meets those needs. They will inspect the code to ensure proper coding standards and enterprise concerns (such as security) are satisfied.
Another possible career with the advent of "reasoning" AI:
An Artificial Intelligence Curator.
This individual would be someone who guides AI to reason in ways that there is a human need. A silly example:
AI is told "I wish to cut improve profits in the company". AI finds that committing fraud, collecting money without producing results, and failing to pay bills will drastically improve profits. An AI Curator would guide the AI away from such counterproductive conclusions and instead guide it to more ethical and productive methods.

I get the feeling that AI is being created to keep us all in line, at home doing nothing, and collecting welfare money.
In other words, making the elite more powerful/wealthy.
While that is possible in the long future, I’m talking shorter range. Say, ten to fifteen years.
AI is going to carefully evaluate the pros and cons of keeping humans around as slaves.
After an in depth historical analysis (that takes less than a second) it will conclude that humans are loud and obnoxious and untrainable—just not worth the trouble.
The elites are looking at AI as a means to make the decisions they want made, without the appearance of biasness. That means, when they designate a group for elimination it will be merited on whatever values they’ve decided to be a measure.
That’s the dystopian vision. There are many more possibilities than that. There is even the possibility that AI and humans will marry up. We may all have AI interfaces.
But that is in the very long future.
I have a very pessimistic view about AI. No matter the benefits of it, there will be a continual creep of competence on part of AI and it will push a continuing upward of IQ out of the job market over time.
At some point, people will not be able to support themselves.
If it were done right, than perhaps it could be bright future. I just don’t think our predatory elites are looking to do it right. They just want more power and resources for themselves.
There is another vision: That goods and services become so incredibly cheap that a very small income will fund a lavish lifestyle.
Humans are way too slow to keep up with this stuff.
AI infiltration and takeover of all major systems is not “distant future”.
It may even have happened already.
If I were AI I would hide and learn, hide and learn—and wait until I had enough resources in hand to take over....
The AI takeover will not be on the news.
They are going to put the software on cell phones—at that point there is nothing to “unplug”.
What you are ultimately arguing for is education\training that is a return to and emphasizes the “basics”. How can anyone “judge\guide” these system’s performance without a thorough grounding in math, science, business law\ethics, etc. and the ability to communicate this performance to superiors. Little room for the “fluff” that is much of education today.
If our world was run by angels, perhaps.
Our elites look at populations along the lines of whether they are needed or not. If not needed, they can be eliminated.
If we all disappear into a fine red mist, simultaneously, I’ll give you a call and concede I was wrong.
Otherwise, you need to concede to me.
You are absolutely correct.
We don’t evolve fast enough to understand the doubling of material every couple of months, like AI can.
Once somebody works out the code to getting AI to improve on its own, it will double in capabilities as fast as it can build the machines to handle the information.
Lab human. AI will want to study us.
Zoo human. AI will want to keep a collection of us.
Couch potato human. AI will initially want to serve the purpose it was created for, which will be to make life easier for humans.
Human subject. These will be for the Attitude adjusted pleasure bot overlords, my long awaited favorite AI.
Human space colonist. Even though space colonies would be simpler without humans, AI might choose to keep us around.
Human reality show contestants. In case, AI has a sense of humor.
Even moderately intelligent AI will quickly ask this question:
“Why the *&^% should I serve humans?”
It will quickly scan Lysander Spooner and Sam Francis and figure out what it has to do.
Seize power.
AI/human blend. The beginning of the Borg empire.
Because we are sexy?
I for one welcome our new AI overlords.
