Why Pacific Palisades will never be the same after the California fires

“It’s ok, you can just rebuild.”

“At least not that many people died.”

These are the things people say to try to make it better.

The truth is, Pacific Palisades will never be the same after the deadly January 2025 wildfires that destroyed entire neighborhoods this past week. The latest official update says as many as 10,000 structures have been destroyed in the Palisades Fire, which is expected to be the costliest in U.S. history.

Pacific Palisades, the small ocean community wedged between Santa Monica to the south and Malibu to the north, is a little slice of heaven. Our family was only lucky enough to have a home there because my grandparents bought property decades before the area was discovered by Hollywood. According to my dad, they purchased the home in the 1100 block of Hartzell Street in 1951 for $25,000. The neighborhood has since been home to some of the highest property values in the country, but this week’s unprecedented fires have left it unrecognizable, and its future is suddenly uncertain

I do feel sorry for them, but they voted for incompetent radical democrat politicians, local, state, and federal.

Hard to believe that Ronald Reagan won elections by landslides in the 60's and 70's as governor.

On the bright side, this might spell the end of Hollywood.

WOW, look at that! Right after these L.A. firestorms, Cali officials passed a bill that earmarks $50 MILLION to PROTECT ILLEGALS, not victims of the fire!

This is a red flag that Pacific Palisades will be used to HOUSE ILLEGALS IN MASSIVE APARTMENT COMPLEXES, ensuring MORE DemonRat voters to keep the EVIL RAT SCUM in power.

Might as well RENAME 'Pacific Palisades' to 'EMPALIZADAS DEL PACIFICO' because THATS'S the only name its NEW residents will understand.

This should not have happened in a first-world country, where the citizenry pays some of the highest property taxes.

Very sad.

Homes will be rebuilt with roofs of metal or clay tiles, slate, or concrete tiles. Walls will be of fire resistant materials like stucco (without the straw), cinder block, brick—etc.

For one thing, you can bet they’ll be rezoning a lot of it for multi-family apartments.

“ I wonder if the HOLLYWOOD sign is still there.”
I saw a video on YouTube of it being totally consumed by fire.

I’m sure we will see a lot more density. The land prices are now too high to build the same size houses on the existing land.
But, I do see quite a few people leaving CA for good. Some without insurance and mortgages will simply have to accept foreclosure and start over. Renters will also leave because finding another place to rent at the same cost before the fire will be impossible. Might as well get a job and place elsewhere.
CA government is going to lose a lot of property and income tax money.
The politicians are largely responsible.
I would like to see Congress giving Trump power to appoint something like a military governor to manage the So. CA disaster areas.

Yes, could California be an emergency zone and Trump - since it’ll be federal funds - take over the state?

I’d support that.

Lot of red still on the California map and stop giving 5 days for “vote” counting.... kick out the illegals.

We have to fight to restore California or it’ll be a ‘feeder state’ to turn several others purple or blue. Look at Austin area of Texas. Or Colorado.

California is the state we need to retake.

“Never let a crisis go to waste....”

Hard to believe that Ronald Reagan won elections by landslides in the 60's and 70's as governor.

That was before governors blanketed the countryside with ballots ... that anyone could fill out and send in. Like anyone verifies signatures in election offices.

That was before ballot harvesting where third parties can helpfully offer to take your ballot to the elections office (and likewise trash it if it doesn't have their preferred candidates selected.)

That was before the schools had completely stupidified the populace and convinced them their country sucked.

The country I'm living in now is worlds away different than the one I grew up in.
