Former US House speaker says documented people, Dreamers, mothers and children must not be deported

Newt Gingrich, the former US House speaker and presidential hopeful, said a section of his own Republican party was “rabid” over immigration and predicted Donald Trump’s suggestion that he could deport documented people as well as millions of undocumented people will not come to pass.

“I’d be very surprised if you see any significant effort to change the game for people who are here legally,” Gingrich said, weeks before Trump’s return to the White House. “I just think there’s a very small faction of the party that’s rabid about this.”

He also warned that public support for mass deportations would “collapse” if stories began to come out “about mothers or babies or children being deported”.

The president-elect may not welcome Gingrich’s intervention. After all, Trump won last year’s election promising mass deportations involving the armed forces and detention camps.

Unworkable?

With as much public fanfare as possible, send the first few planeloads to Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Haiti.

We have no obligation to return these invaders to their last suspected country.

Then broadcast the deportation lottery nightly. Make it a game show like "The Running Man", except the invaders face "The Wheel" of countries they're going to be deported to. Maybe they'll get lucky and even get deported to their home country. Who knows? Viewers can place their bets online.

The invaders will scramble to self-deport and capable countries will do whatever they can to stay off the list of Random Destination Countries by recalling their invaders. If we're running a "trade deficit" with your country, we're going to make that deficit up - just not with those you dumped on us. I hope the invaders we dump in your country aren't hardcore criminals but hey, you'll figure out what to do. After all, you had no qualms about dumping your invaders on us.

Immigration is a complex problem with no simple answers as much as that is what many think they want.

It will be the largest deportation of illegal criminal we have seen.

Trump has also talked about “a big fat beautiful door” and that will offend many here.

The real issue here is the door. Trump asked congress repeatedly for guidelines for immigration he could implement.

no wall (liberals) and all wall (rabid conservatives) is not the answer.

Sorry, we want and need good immigrants. How do you decide?
