Anyone have any statistics regarding visitation at Carter’s viewing in the Rotunda?

Haven’t even seen any photos yet of our doors and how the lines were. The public, I mean, not all the VIPs.

I’m really curious how “popular” he was.

I’m aware it was cold, but I’m still curious how it would compare to Regan, e.g.

Dammit, autocorrect must have put in “station” instead of STATS.

The only thing I read was that there was the line extended out of the Capitol doors. I waited eight hours to see Reagan’s casket at the Capitol and the line was not only out the door but went around and around the Capitol.

I looked for that info, too, after seeing an article mentioning hundreds in DC and thousands in Georgia.

Who would want to see the corpse of a crappy president?

Here is an 11-hour video of Carter lying in state: PBS: WATCH: Former President Jimmy Carter lies in state at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda

It's only 11 hours out of the total 29 hours, but it's what I could find.

Here is a photo from Fox News showing the line to view Carter.

Just curious how wrinkly the flag was on the casket...

He was President of the United States. Whether he was worth it or not, the office certainly is.

And, luckily, it wasn’t open casket viewing. Any child brought to that event saw the respect given to the office in the flag-draped casket.

Personally, I wouldn’t have bothered. After all, most of us here are old enough to remember other funerals that showed respect for the office AND love for the man.

But the office should always be respected, even if the office-holder is unfortunate.

There wasn’t a big turn out for Carter or else we would have seen them on TV. On the other hand, Reagan’s turn out was huge. I remember how liberals grinded their teeth over the love and affection people expressed for him.

We went to see Ford. If I recall correctly, we went on New Years Day. It was a rainy day and no line. I am sure the low temperatures kept some people away from Carter.

When I was getting my hair cut the other day, some of the women were discussing that they had not been born when Carter was President. Most people who remember the Carter presidency are at least 55 years old.

Correct. A decade or so ago, I would have stood in line to tinkle on his grave. I guess age has mellowed me just a bit.

Confirmation that he is indeed dead.

An article in Reader’s Digest in 1960s was written by a man, who at age 11, had accompanied his father at the disinterment of President Lincoln. They hoped to end rumors that his body had been stolen. An interesting retelling from the point of view of an 11 year old when he was late in life.

I’m aware it was cold, but I’m still curious how it would compare to Regan, e.g.

We stood in line for Ronald Reagan in blasting heat for around 4 hours. The line out on the Capitol lawn wound around and around, between temporary bike-rack barriers.

I was there, with my sister and her family. Took off work for it. We got there probably around 10, maybe a bit later (2 young girls in tow, like 8). As in my profile I finally passed the rotunda 3:30.

We were out a very long time. Yes, the switchback Disney lines, then over to the side of the Capitol (south side) and along the west face to go up to rotunda. My nephew could not find his camera after having to give it up and come back out at collections on the north side.

It was the only time I’ve ever been in the Capitol. That’s sad.

I watched that earlier. It’s just inside so there’s really no way to tell. Plenty people pass by but I’d like a drone view down the Mall!
