A detachment of the 23rd Space Operations Squadron also works out of Pituffik. Detachment 1 (Det-1), also called the Pituffik Tracking Station, tracks and commands high-priority government satellites from its location, which is about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) southeast of the main base.
I’ve seen this movie.
It doesn’t end well.......
The USA has been in Greenland since the 60’s.
There was a DEW station there powered by a small nuclear reactor.
This nothing new or sinister.
It’s former name was Thule Air Station. It’s been around since the 1960s.
I knew of it since my first assignment at NORAD Cheyenne Mountain. We had a direct comm line to their radar data.
The only thing I didn’t know at first was how to pronounce it.
I thought it was “Thool”. Everyone laughed at me and told me it was pronounced “Tuu—ly”. Oh well, didn’t make sense to me, but there ya go.
It was given a new name when it was transferred to the new Space Force under President Trump.

Maybe our Space Force is helping Denmark upgrade those sleds. You know, to make them more like this one.
What is the US Space Force doing in Greenland?
><
They are probably trying to stay warm.
Without even reading the article, Greenland would be needed to extend our “early warning” network to offset increased speed of hypersonic missiles coming over the poles.
We’ve had a base there for a long time.
When I air crewed on C-141’s back in the early 70’s we’d fly into Thule to deliver cargo. All I remember is no trees and so freaking cold.
The Space Force is in Greenland because they need LOTS of space. That’s exactly what Greenland has to offer.
I would work with the Danish and Greenlandic governments to get a base there, and some mineral deals.
Greenland has a lot of empty space.
