Jim Gaffigan says people told him to avoid criticizing Kamala Harris because the election was so important
The comedian said the lack of criticism for Harris was probably not good for her campaign.
Comedian Jim Gaffigan revealed that people had told him not to criticize Kamala Harris during the presidential election, and he called it a strategic mistake. He made the comments while appearing on "The Last Laugh" podcast with Matt Wilstein.
"What I thought was interesting about this election, maybe because it was so important, and maybe because it was such a short election for Kamala, that people were like, 'Don't criticize her,'" said Gaffigan. "And my whole thing is, that's actually bad to have that approach. And I think in hindsight people feel that way," he added.
Gaffigan's comments were in line with much of the scorn being directed at the Democratic Party and Harris herself after garnering a record billion dollars in campaign contributions and failing so badly. Democrats lost the electoral vote and the popular vote, lost control of the U.S. Senate, and were unable to topple Republican control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The comedian ignored the advice to avoid criticism of Harris when he emceed the prominent Al Smith Dinner in October during the election. Gaffigan skewered Harris for avoiding the dinner that raised millions for Catholic charities and even took a damaging jab at the Democrats for installing her without a primary to give voters a choice of candidate. Gaffigan also said on the same podcast that he regretted alienating some Trump supporters with his comments against President-elect Donald Trump.
“I regret that people think that I was criticizing people that support Trump. That was never the intention," he said.
“I also do acknowledge that there are true, die-hard Trump fans who probably enjoyed my comedy, but because they feel so passionately, will never forgive me,” he added.
He used to be funny when he joked about hot pockets. He should have stuck to that.
What “people”, Gaffigan, name them. And how were they able to impose their will on you so you wouldn’t do your job of being a comic?
And Trump handled him like a boss and put him in his place with a grace and dignity that Gaffigan did not deserve.
A billion and a half dollars was a lot of money spread around to keep people’s mouths shut if they were not in the bag for Harris.
Bill Burr’s in that same boat. Before he exposed himself as a leftist quack he was quite funny. Not any more though.
“I regret that people think that I was criticizing people that support Trump. That was never the intention,” he said.
I guess this braindead nimrod caught some heat from former fans. I can’t respect comics who are afraid of anyone.
If the left cancels him, he is toast I guess.
I watched Jim Gaffigan at the Al Smith Dinner and I thought it was pretty balanced. We all have to remember that he is a paid performer and has multiple audiences to consider. That being said I thought his performance was pretty funny and I didn’t leave the experience with any bad feelings.
Gaffigan has been proactively trashing Trump, the GOP, libertarians, conservatives, civil rights advocates, etc. I dont believe an effin work he says. He had a choice, some others had little choice.
Did you watch the Al Smith Dinner? He didn’t follow the order. He made fun of Kemala a lot (and Trump too). That’s what a mainstream comedian should do: being an equal opportunity offender.
“I also do acknowledge that there are true, die-hard Trump fans who probably enjoyed my comedy, but because they feel so passionately, will never forgive me,” he added.
I love Trump as much as the next guy but if I were a comic I could and would center comedy around him all day. Same with Reagan. Both presidents could laugh at themselves as well. Back in the days of “Camelot” comics exploited the heck out of the Kennedys without getting politically nasty. Those comics would have a field day with some one as, shall we say, politically eccentric as is Trump.
Kennedy (Lisa Kennedy Montgomery), who made her start on MTV and has a house in Pacific Palisades, was asked to name who these amorphous "people" are who are telling the comedians to not to joke about Harris. Before the question was finished being asked, she blurted out the name "Judd Apatow."
Kennedy said that Apatow is a Hollywood producer who has near absolute control over the comedic talent in Hollywood, because almost all comedians who want to appear in TV shows, movies, or live stages have to have the approval of Apatow.
I don't know much more than that, but I trust that she has her finger on the pulse of Hollywood and knows what she's talking about.

Interesting... Thanks for sharing.
"Judd Apatow" - no surprise, there

As long as everyone remembers that his supposed regret is yet another part of the PR that props up every entertainment industry Demwit, fine.
“maybe because it was such a short election for Kamala, that people were like, ‘Don’t criticize her,’” said Gaffigan.”
These people have names.
