Traffic jams continue to plague urban centers across the United States, leading to lost time, increased costs, and frustration for millions of commuters.
The 2024 INRIX Global Traffic Scorecard sheds light on the cities most affected, providing valuable insights into the challenges faced by drivers.
Here are the 10 cities with the worst traffic, according to INRIX:
New York City – The Big Apple leads the nation, with drivers losing countless hours in traffic.
Chicago – The Windy City ranks second, with congestion remaining a major issue.
Los Angeles – LA’s infamous gridlock earns it the third spot.
Boston – Beantown’s historic streets come with modern-day delays.
Philadelphia – The City of Brotherly Love isn’t so loving when it comes to traffic.
Miami – Sunshine and gridlock go hand in hand in South Florida.
Houston – The largest city in Texas makes the list with its sprawling roads.
Atlanta – Southern charm meets bumper-to-bumper frustration.
Washington, DC – Commuters in the nation’s capital face significant delays.
Seattle – The Emerald City rounds out the top 10 with its persistent congestion.
The INRIX report highlights several factors contributing to the worsening traffic, including increased economic activity, urban population growth, and a slower return to remote work than expected.
Traffic congestion not only wastes time but also impacts the environment and the economy, making it a pressing issue for city planners and policymakers.

“I was amazed at the aggression. My uncle said it’s the business women mostly. Wacko drivers. Puttingg on makeup at 70 MPH”
Saw a woman doing that in heavy traffic. I was so mad I nearly cut myself shaving!
I learned how to drive in Los Angeles county.
I spent 20 plus years driving in and through Seattle daily.
I have driven in many of the cities mentioned
as a function of my job being a Boeing engineer
generally going to some school on something.
I’ve done heavy traffic my entire life,
from back roads to 6 lane interstates.
If you are still reading my pet peeves are this
1. Get up to and do at least the speed limit, weather permitting as quickly as possible.
2. Don’t tailgate and brake pump incessantly!
3. Don’t lane change constantly, odds are all you do is
beat me by a minute or two when we are going to the same place. but cause a lot of other people to brake that tends to ripple through the line.
4. If you are just out for a fun ride get the heck out of my way. I have to go somewhere, now, you obviously don’t.
5. Cops need to ticket people that don’t observe the laws.
Not just speeders, 40 MPH in the fast lane, dry road and nice day is citable, so do it!
6. Unless it involves personal threat and safety it isn’t worth the effort or fight.
7. Get a concealed carry weapon legally - it will cause most people to think twice before they want to start a fight. Dumb people will get weeded out really quick.
8. Get rid of cop speed traps. Cops should be out on patrols
gauging the situations, not being money makers.
9. Drive a safe vehicle! I hate it in Hawaii, but we get yearly inspections, sometimes they drive your car, you never know. if you fail they take your license plates and give you a temporary so you can drive home or to a repair station.
10. Driving on public roads is not a right! It is a privilege you must earn.
Your number 3 is so true. LOTS of people run red lights in Houston.
I have driven in NYC, Boston, DC, LA, Philly, Dallas and Houston over my working career. The Worst drivers are in Boston. They drive the wrong way on the sidewalk.
lol
28 BILLION dollars later ( 44 BILLION in adjusted 2025 taxpayer money) and originally estimated at 2.5 Billion dollars Boston traffic is worse than ever.
Where once one could look at the city, breath the fresh air and enjoy the sunrise/ sunset for an hour or two stuck in traffic now we get to sit in a dark wet tunnel to wait it out.
THIS, with craploads of people STILL working from home.
YEA, democrat PROGRESS!
It’s bad. Used to be, anyway. The joke was in Boston, a red light is a suggestion
Until yesterday my son lived near DC. He arrived at his new apartment in Colorado a few hours ago. In one of his job interviews they asked how he would handle being away from the big city.
He said if he had to swerve for another stupid Maryland/DC driver he’d go crazy.
He got the job.
If you don't want to have 500 million living here by the Tricentennial, demand a 50 year moratorium on ALL IMMIGRATION NOW !!!
I've been to Italy but have never driven there.
I was stationed in England and the bloke (British) drivers would pull out to pass you on a 2-lane road without a care whatsoever if there was an oncoming car. They took it on absolute faith that the car being overtaken and the oncoming car would both move over to the edge of the pavement and the cars would pass three abreast at 65 mph on a two lane road.
All liberal shxtholes... imagine that.
“Houston drivers are aggressive.
They see a four-foot gap in traffic as an opportunity.”
Ditto that. I was at a red light in Houston and saw someone crossing a lane right in front of my car and appeared to be moving at a 75-90 degree angle to my car.
Yeah moving sideways in front of me to get to the exit turnoff. Such wasted talent. I was sure my car was going to be hit but not even a scratch.
We drive from FL to MN via South Carolina for the sole purpose of avoiding the traffic hell that is Atlanta.
Nice. That’s funny right there! Good luck to him.
We have good friends who moved off from metro ATL to L.A.
That would be Lower Alabama.
They both grew up in Atlanta, lived here forever - and they will NOT come visit us because they’d have to come thru ATL to get to our bit of exurbia. They simply will not go to ATL any more. We’re visiting them briefly next week as we head to the FL Panhandle coast for a week.

Yes. The only city I have ever seen home made exits are in the Houston area. It works.
NY, Boston, Houston etc. are bad, but truely insane IMHO is I-95 from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami. A combination of confused octogenarians doing 30 mph and 3rd world lunatics doing 120 mph and ignoring every traffic law.
