Donald Trump pushes back Ukraine war deadline in sign of support for Kyiv

US president-elect Donald Trump has pushed back his campaign pledge to end the war in Ukraine in “24 hours” to several months, in a shift European partners have interpreted as a sign that his administration will not immediately abandon support for Kyiv.

The incoming administration was also wary of comparisons being made with Joe Biden’s calamitous US withdrawal from Afghanistan, which was something the Trump camp would not like to see repeated in Ukraine, the official added.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who met Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort last week, has ruled out that Washington would “abandon” Ukraine.

“I don’t foresee a US disengagement,” she said in a news conference on Thursday, adding that Trump had proven capable of blending diplomacy with deterrence. “On peace, Trump may be someone who is moving forward towards a solution, but I don’t think that means abandoning Ukraine.”

Meloni said that Ukraine would have to receive concrete security guarantees as part of any potential diplomatic deal to end the active conflict.

“Security guarantees are fundamental if we actually aspire to have peace in Ukraine,” she said. “We all know that in the past Russia has violated the agreements that it has signed. Without security guarantees, we cannot have certainty that will not happen again.”

President Trump will trade sanctions relief in exchange for Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory during negotiations.

It's possible that the Russians care little about "sanctions relief" any more.

The petty bullies in the West have over-used them.

Also, the Ukrainians have got to still be occupying Russia territory in several months, according to The Trump's new timeline...

As if this was not predictable. I have said it before. Trump made way too many day one promises. The media will never let him live it down.

“He’s not trying to give something to Putin or to the Russians. He’s actually trying to save Ukraine and save their sovereignty. And he’s going to make sure that it’s equitable and that it’s fair,” Kellogg said.”

Fair to who? U.S. Taxpayers?
Or Fair to the Global Homo Grifter?

The answer is blowing up China’s Three Gorges Dam.

Which of course will result in China launching every nuke it has at the continental US. Lot’s of fun.

“Funny how that is exactly Russia’s position”

Actually, I don’t think Putin goes far enough if he wants to end the war and prevent it starting again - that’s why I added an extra clause, which is the US pulling back.

But here’s the problem you guys now have: TRUMP WON, and on top of that Trump sounds like he’s staying away from the Neocon Koolaid regarding Ukraine, since he said he ‘understands’ why Russia had to invade. Can’t say that I blame him for not listening to the Neocons - after all, the Neocons, along with Democrat Ukrainian corruption, were responsible for Trump being IMPEACHED.

As to the future - Trump takes office in 11 days and will likely work the Ukraine issue himself, since he’s clearly done his homework in understanding why the war happened in the first place. He’s giving it 100 days and if nothing happens, he’s likely out of there and Europe can try to clean up the mess that they helped make. But, most likely, Ukraine will take whatever Russia offers them, and it won’t be much.

You guys should have TALKED to Putin as that probably would have prevented the mess we now have.
