US president-elect Donald Trump has pushed back his campaign pledge to end the war in Ukraine in “24 hours” to several months, in a shift European partners have interpreted as a sign that his administration will not immediately abandon support for Kyiv.

The incoming administration was also wary of comparisons being made with Joe Biden’s calamitous US withdrawal from Afghanistan, which was something the Trump camp would not like to see repeated in Ukraine, the official added.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who met Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort last week, has ruled out that Washington would “abandon” Ukraine.
“I don’t foresee a US disengagement,” she said in a news conference on Thursday, adding that Trump had proven capable of blending diplomacy with deterrence. “On peace, Trump may be someone who is moving forward towards a solution, but I don’t think that means abandoning Ukraine.”
Meloni said that Ukraine would have to receive concrete security guarantees as part of any potential diplomatic deal to end the active conflict.
“Security guarantees are fundamental if we actually aspire to have peace in Ukraine,” she said. “We all know that in the past Russia has violated the agreements that it has signed. Without security guarantees, we cannot have certainty that will not happen again.”

I guess you guys won’t bother posting what Trump ACTUALLY SAID about the Ukraine War which was that he understands why Russia invaded and compared it to China setting up bases on on our Mexican border.

I think the same.
“He’s not trying to give something to Putin or to the Russians. He’s actually trying to save Ukraine and save their sovereignty. And he’s going to make sure that it’s equitable and that it’s fair,” Kellogg said.”
Once Trump gets to Moscow, he’ll tell Kellogg to stop watching CNN, at least if he really wants to end the war.
You are putting too much emphasis on something that Trump actually said at one time or other. You can always pick out some statement and mistakenly elevate it to a mantra. In fact, this thread is about how Trump actually said he would end the war on Day One, but now he is not going to do that after all.
In a few weeks, after President Trump takes office, we will find out who has been delusional:
Choice one: Those who see Russia as the aggrieved party, who has every right to take what they want of Ukraine.
Choice two: Those who see Ukraine as the aggrieved party, who have every right to resist the Russian invasion.
I expect the reality (because Trump is a realist) will be Trump will work hard to stop the killing without allowing the Russians to take much more of Ukraine than they already have. He may even work out ways to aid the Ukrainians to take some Russian territory as a bargaining tool.
Abandoning Ukraine is not in the cards.
Invading Russia is not in the cards.
Trump is a realist who sees the danger of both extremes.

Ukraine has lost about 20% of its territory to Russia and has suffered incredible damage in other parts of the country.
The long term question is who will fund the re-development of Ukraine after the fighting ends? Its going to require a staggering amount of money and aid.
The answer is blowing up China’s Three Gorges Dam.
China is our enemy.

Europe’s the big cheerleader for this crap...let them deal with what will be left of Ukraine.
The Chinese Communist Party has been the entity which has benefited the most from the Russian/Ukrainian war.
The Chinese Communist Party has been the entity which has benefited the most from the Russian/Ukrainian war.
“Let you and him fight!”
The American taxpayer, that’s who.
So you see my point. Well done.
That only gives Russia more opportunity for Russia to seize more land & to kill more Ukrainian military personnel, as far as I can see.
I believe that what Biden has done, has created conditions that insure that the war is prolonged.
At this point Putin is probably looking for a way out of this protracted and costly war. So a interim settlement or cessation of hostilities of some type in the near future is a realistic possibility.
We need to get this resolved ASAP in order to shift our attention and resources to the Pacific to counter the growing threat from China. We can no longer afford this continuing distraction and resource drain.
Trump will find a way out of this destructive mess. But Ukraine is going to want security guarantees and tons of money for re-construction. Europe/NATO is going to have to step up its support as well. On top of it all Ukraine is a sordid den of corruption, so then there’s that.
Its going to be long and difficult negotiation process that could could easily drag on for years before its eventually resolved in some type of tenuous balance.
