Trump’s Incredibly High Stakes
American Thinker ^ | 9 Jan, 2025 | J. Robert Smith

Trump isn’t interested in making America great again for 48 months. He means to course correct the U.S.

Last week, Mike Johnson was re-elected as a speaker. Just a couple of votes against Johnson could have denied him a first ballot win -- or aced him out entirely. Another drawn-out, multi-ballot fight for the speakership would have been a needless distraction for president-elect Trump. Trump means to get out of the gate running. So, he stepped in. He made the difference. He worked the phones and whipped wobbly Republicans into line, ensuring Johnson a bare majority victory. Art of the Deal met LBJ -- that other Johnson, Lyndon Baines, who as Senate majority leader and president dangled carrots and twisted arms with the best of them.

The Trump who pushed Mike Johnson across the finish line is the Trump who’ll need to drive, cajole, woo, and reward congressional Republicans, particularly through the critical first months of his presidency. Hands on isn’t a choice. Thin majorities and weak and untrustworthy congressional leadership require it.

Trump has decided to roll the dice bigly. He wants to pack a reconciliation measure full of his key proposals. To get that passed, it requires small majorities of congressional Republicans sticking together. That’s no small feat given usually balky establishment Republicans and some conservatives. Chip Roy comes to mind.

Reports the Epoch Times, January 8:

The entire Trump agenda is at stake because it depends on immediate action, given the looming midterm elections and Trump’s own term limit. If Congress cannot provide the funds for Trump’s initiatives within the next few months, experts say the president may struggle to get much done in his second term.

The good news is that Trump and his team get the urgency. He’s meeting with Republican senators and

When a Democrat is in the White House, that president has god-like powers.
The Legislative branch doesn’t matter.
The courts don’t matter.
A Democrat President can do anything they want.

Republicans should learn from this. Get things done. Who is going to stop you?

I am not a fan of Mike Johnson, but I am fully in support of putting this behind the party and having them work as a team to right this ship of state.

If Johnson does what is needed and we get results, or even if it is clear he is fighting, I will back him fully.

“””He means to course correct the U.S.”””

Beautiful words, but boy are things going to get wild and brutal once the left pull themselves back together after this recent shock, and get their war machine back in operation, a lot of the public has tuned out the left and no longer respond to their keywords and repetitive accusations, the left is going to flounder a lot before settling on some truly nasty strategies.

Boring won’t be used to describe the next 4 years.

Who knows, the internal war within the left could even result in a less liberal democrat party, a modern more liberal version of the Humphrey days.

There are starting to be rumors about the POTUS governing from the “winter white house”, Mar A Lago. I think that would be a great idea.

I liked the article, thanks for posting it.

When a ship is in a storm and there is nobody at the helm, the ship will be thrown to and fro at the whim of the weather and ocean, and eventually, will without question, founder and end up at the bottom of the ocean.

That is our country and the world for the past four years, and from 2009 to 2016, it wasn't "nobody at the helm", it was a malicious entity at the helm, driving the ship into the storm, and steering it directly towards the rocks.

It is a wet dream of Leftists to see a world where American influence is diluted and eliminated, and what we have today is what you get. As the picture below illustrates, this is what the Left and their enablers on the right have been advocating: A Post American World.

Trump may not be the fix. He may not succeed. He may not be the answer. We may already be too far gone.

But as Dan Bongino has accurately stated, Republicans as a whole may not be the answer to our problems, but they are assuredly not the cause.

So Trump, being largely out of view, down in Mar A Lago, with a steady stream of personages trekking down there (as the American Thinker article points out) and him marshaling their support, planning his actions, and steering this ship of his, we have a chance of having someone at the helm in this storm that the Left, and their assistants on the Right have contributed to create.

We at least have a chance of avoiding being thrown to and from at the whim of events. Those events are going to happen. But we can feel confident that when those events occur, Trump won't be on his back on a beach licking ice cream cones.

He will helm that ship and provide leadership. And we sorely need it.

“So Trump, being largely out of view, down in Mar A Lago, with a steady stream of personages trekking down there...”

Can you just imagine all the gearing-up being done at the WPB airport...from the air traffic controllers, especially to the fixed base operators. Wonder if the employees are being checked out by the Secret Service?

Oh, yeah. Talk about a major, intrusive, behind the scenes mechanism to deal with that environment that we in the public just don’t see much of.

And it isn’t the same as the movie stars who live down there...this is the President! (How I enjoy saying that...:)

OTOH, they went through all of this before, so all the employees were probably saying “Here we go again!”

Get spending bills out as fast as possible. No more omnibus monstrosities. The sooner they are out the better chance to get them through the reconcilliation process which does not require 60 votes.
