The tourist - 22-year-old Blanca Ojanguren García - was bathing the elephant at the Koh Yao Elephant Care Centre in southern Thailand when she was attacked by the animal.
This has renewed concerns over Thailand's booming elephant tourism industry, which animal rights groups have long criticised as unethical and dangerous.
Activists say that elephant bathing is disruptive to natural grooming behaviours and could injure the animals, exposing them to unnecessary stress.

I was there in the ‘60s for a few years, there were elephants everywhere but most of them were in Chains and harvesting teak.
Caught ‘em flat footed.
City people who have never handled large animals.
Have been taught that all critters are fuzzy furry forests’ creatures.
That will never harm you.
I saw somewhere that mahout is an Elephant Waxer that uses Turtle Wax to get that high luster shine.

She had quite an experience and nailed the landing but her lousy parents ran for their sorry lives and left her to be targeted by the bison.
