Lawyers for former New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez are urging a judge to be lenient at his sentencing later this month for his conviction on bribery charges, saying the ordeal has made him a “national punchline” despite a lifetime of good deeds that have saved lives.
Late Thursday, the lawyers wrote to the judge who will sentence him to say that the Democrat’s positive actions through an unusual life spent overcoming hardships should weigh in his favor. Sentencing is scheduled for July 29.
The 71-year-old Menendez was convicted in July of 16 corruption charges brought by prosecutors who asserted that he used his power in the Senate to do favors that benefited three New Jersey businessmen.
Two of the businessmen were convicted along with him while a third pleaded guilty to charges and testified at the trial.
His wife faces trial next month on many of the same charges after her case was delayed so she could be treated for breast cancer.
The lawyers told Judge Sidney H. Stein that Menendez has fallen on hard times since he was charged in the case in 2023, losing the Senate seat he held for 18 years, along with most of his “once broad circle of friends and political allies.”

Bob Menendez legal trouble might be related to one of these:
1) Immigration Policy: Menendez expressed strong opposition to Biden’s expansion of Title 42 and the new transit ban regulation. He, along with other senators, criticized these policies as harsh and not in line with humanitarian values.
2) Foreign Policy with Cuba and Venezuela: Menendez has been known to oppose easing sanctions on Cuba and Venezuela. He “vehemently” opposed Biden’s administration when it wanted to reverse some sanctions against these countries, maintaining a hard stance on these issues.
3) Afghanistan Withdrawal: He sharply criticized Biden’s execution of the Afghanistan withdrawal, describing it as a “policy execution and intelligence failure,” and pledged to investigate the administration’s actions.
He seemed critical of The Diaper King. That’s apparently enough to land you in jail. The Mayor of NY or President Trump come to mind.
EXACTLY
LOOK INTO YOUR MIRROR, BOB-—
YOU DID IT ALL TO YOURSELF.
I also thought this was about Thee Menedi.😉
How is Nikki Glaser doing hosting the G.G.?
She was pretty good at the Tom Brady roast.
Everyone expected a lot from Nikki Glaser here. Not I.
She is getting muted
She got the hook for a disgusting monologue and un recorded for coming out in a bishop’s miter.
Awful
Isn’t he one of the famous Menendez Brothers team?
These poor little orphans should not be punished.
