CORVALLIS, Ore. (KATU) — Corvallis Police and Fire responded to a train trestle collapse near Avery Park on Saturday afternoon.

“Initial investigations show the trestle collapsed while a freight train was crossing. At this time, there are no known injuries, but it is still an active scene and investigation,” Corvallis Police said in a post on Facebook.

"At approximately noon today, a Portland & Western Railroad (PNWR) bridge outside Corvallis collapsed while a 19-car train was traversing over it, derailing a railcar carrying urea into Mary's River," a spokesperson for PNWR tells KATU News.

Looks like an old wooden tresle. The river is in flood stage.

The cause of the collapse has not been released at this time. Corvallis police said there was a structural failure of the trestle, which was damaged in a fire a few years ago.

Urea is used in making “DEF” for modern diesel powered vehicles, so that they can be more “environmentally friendly”.

Years ago my mom wanted to get rid of these male cats that hung around our yard. We went to the Ringling Bros circus and they sold powdered tiger pee. Supposedly you sprinkled it in your yard and it was going to scare off all the critters. My mom sprinkled it around and the male cats would roll around in the powder like it was catnip. They loved it. I think it made them smell huge and powerful to scare the other males away. Who knew.

The woods and fields for miles downstream will be lush and green when spring comes.

Or, to be more precise, it’s what the body means to expel when animals piss, but it’s purpose is the main ingredient of fertilizer.

Sounds like the feral male cats were already providing the service for free.

More likely there will be a big algae bloom in the river and down the coast, with accelerated growth of kelp. Could be a good thing eventually. We really don't understand nitrate in the marine environment very well.

After several complaints the railroad spokesperson probably said, “stick it in your urea.”

Wood ash for icy driveways and walks. Good for the plants. Just make sure to leave your shoes off at the door, coming inside.

I used coal ash in the 80’s and 90’s. We had to move for a job and couldn’t find a new coal & wood burning stove at our new location. You know....progress.

It is also used in diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).

Perhaps we should protest about such train cars like the greenies do about coal etc.
