Did you know Franklin D. Roosevelt was the first president to have an armored limousine? At the height of World War II, the Secret Service decided that the president needed a safer means of transportation. And that tradition still stands today.
Getting your hands on a presidential limo, though, is no easy feat—they don't just hand them out to civilians. But, if you head to the Mecum Kissimmee auction on January 18, 2025, you might be able to drive home in a rare armored Cadillac originally built for President Bill Clinton.
This fully armored 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham was one of three built for President Clinton when he took office. It has a 3.0-inch taller roof, 3.0-inch thick bulletproof doors, an onboard oxygen and fire suppression system, special run-flat tires, and a whole host of safety equipment.

Where is his Ranchero?
The stories those back seats could tell.
Better bring some Lysol.
Great. Just what would be terrorists need.
So the new owner will have to hire an exorcist to purify the vehicle. And here’s the thing. No exorcism can be 100% guaranteed.
I’d pass on the car, for that reason alone.
Has it been fully decontaminated of all the biohazards?
I’m not sure I believe this story.
The SS dose not excess these vehicles. They don’t give them away to our allies or even to other federal agencies.
They are considered sensitive federal property and are never sold. My understand is that the SS disposes of them by blowing them up in training.
Remember the “Mythbusters” episode where they buried in concrete a car with a dead pig in it and dug it up months later? They couldn’t get the smell out of it no matter what they tried.
This will be worse - an exorcism wouldn’t get the spiritual funk out of this car.
I am not sure this writer knows what he is talking about. My Dad used to service some equipment for the Secret Service garage where these are maintained and stored. At the time there were way more than 3 presidential limos. I remember my Dad saying they were numbered and had little markers that they put on top with the number and they randomly drew numbers to see which limo would be used for each mission. This resulted in making harder for anyone to potentially sabotage a vehicle.
Additionally, they have to have a whole fleet because the advance teams load up multiples for every place the president travels. On any given trip, they may need 2-3 in multiple cities on a multi-state or multi-country tour so “one of three” does not seem right.
THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE
Like in “Guardians of the Galaxy”: “if I had a black light, this place would look like a Jackson Pollock painting.”
Embassy standards now apply.
It seems like there would be much to learn from a presidential limo as far as their strengths and weaknesses.
Same reason when the presidential helicopter takes off from the White House, the other two meet it and disperse in different directions to keep people guessing which one the president is on. My son had the opportunity to be at the WH where he got to shake Trump’s hand and watch him and Melania leave on the helicopter. I still have the video he took from that day.
