A powerful winter storm system is set to impact much of the country, bringing multiple hazards including heavy snow, dangerous ice, and severe thunderstorms. This system will be accompanied by an intense cold blast that could send wind chills plummeting below -20°F in some areas.

What makes this storm different:

Multiple precipitation types creating hazardous conditions Significant temperature drops of 10-20 degrees below normal Potential for heavy snow accumulation Dangerous wind chills Risk of severe thunderstorms in warmer sectors

Stay tuned for updates as this system develops. While timing and exact impacts may change, this storm system has the potential to create significant travel disruptions and dangerous conditions.

I remember the winter of 1987. I was in seventh grade. It just kept snowing and snowing. So much so that we had to go to school on a Saturday to make up for lost time.

What I'm waiting to see happen again someday is a system like the Storm of the Century from March of 1993. Now THAT was a winter storm! Almost at spring's doorstep.

If this storm kills off the iguanas in South Florida, I’m fine with that. In winter of 2010 we had about a week straight of below 40 degree weather and after that the iguanas almost completely disappeared. It took them about five years to recuperate their numbers.

Last January here in the Knoxville area, we were confined to the house for 10 days. It started with a blizzard. Then the roads iced over and nobody was getting out (or in). We were cozy with the generator, a stash of food, and plenty of books, sewing, etc.

I follow Ryan Hall Y’all on YT. He’s been pretty accurate and doesn’t seem to be a hysterical weather broadcaster. He frequently has storm chasers on his channel when the weather gets crazy.

I usually check his posts and if it the area of weather concern pertains to me, I keep a watch out for what may happen. Yeah, he’s a forecaster, but he’s conservative in that he tries to keep it as accurate as any prediction can be using different weather models.

I’m in SE MO, we are likely to get lots of ice from this storm....

The power will go out... I just know it.

Time to make sure all the battery banks are charged...

I heard a thunderstorm here early this morning.
It woke me up, but I didn’t get out of bed until later.
You’ve seen one thunderstorm, you’ve seen ‘em all…

“Ice is one thing I won’t mess with”

I don’t really have a problem being “iced in”. I kind of enjoy it. The only thing we worry about is if there’s a medical emergency and we couldn’t get out.

At Colgate University in January 1969 there were 3 mornings where AM temp was -45F. Food deliveries were suspended because diesel fuel turned to gel.

They don’t make ‘em like they used to.

Down in northern Virginia, they rate snow storms by rolls of toilet paper.

Don’t forget toilet paper

Confucius say, after covid person without a month's supply of TP deserve to have stinky hand.

Long before covid we have always had enough to get by stuck inside for a month. Bored yes, hungry no.

About 6 years ago we had a hailstorm that caused every house in our 55 house subdivision to get new roofs and siding. About $25k for our home. The same people who had garages full of junk and their cars outside then still do. They learned nothing. In the 41 years I have owned homes with garages, my cars have never sat outside.

The only thing I lack a month's supply of is bourbon. That will be fixed tomorrow.

Here in northeast Oklahoma, we’re supposed to have a couple of weeks where we’ll get some teens. In other words, winter.
