We rented from a Turo listing for Newfoundland Canada in August 2023. It could not have gone any better. Car rentals at the airport could not guarantee what we wanted so we opted for Turo and like I said it worked out great and could not have gone any better.

in midst of Covid, we wanted to fly to SC and then rent a car - conventional rentals were so high priced that killed it. then somone at work suggested Turo - it was ok, we went thru most of the process and then the owner started getting squirrelly about where to pick up and when - we cancelled the whole trip. Road trips are the way to go - in OUR car.
Unless, Iran buys them and puts them on display.

I think so. It’s been a while since I used Turo but I seem to remember that.
You can save quite a bit with Turo but have to pay attention to the individual owner’s requirements to see if it’s worth it. Otherwise, if it’s close enough to drive, drive your own.
I’ve rented quite a few cars over the years and have looked at Turo as they have an interesting variety of makes that are not part of what is available in traditional car rental companies.
However, I’ve been more and more concerned about vehicles having been previously used for transporting drugs... this goes for all car rental companies but I probably would be even more concerned if renting from Turo. Who needs to be putting bags in a truck and brush up against a dusting of fentanyl left by a previous drug runner? This coupled with the fact that my cutoff point on the fly-versus-drive decision keeps getting longer and longer (anything less than 10 hours drive and I’m definitely driving as opposed to flying) means that I’m very likely driving my own vehicle to get from A to B.

Just in case anyone is interested.... As outlined at this link, Turo stock does not trade publicly because it is still a private company. It is a private venture-backed company that has issued 7 classes of preferred stock and 1 class of common stock. Investors usually purchase preferred stock and employees typically receive common stock options or restricted stock units (RSUs) as part of their compensation.
We rented a minivan from Turo when ours was in the shop. We had it for almost a month. It worked fine, the experience was great, and we saved hundreds — perhaps thousands — of dollars over renting from a traditional company.
We had a turo rental for about 1 1/2 years. Turo has rules but it is up to the person renting the car out to follow them. I always did no contact rentals. I’d have them text me a pic of their drivers license before pickup then leave the keys in the console for them. They’d message me through turo when they picked up and when they dropped off. Was super easy.

Safer than simply leaving the key in the console is leaving it in in a lockbox with coded access.
Turo is especially good in Hawaii, to which we can’t drive and at which the traditional rental choices are limited and expensive.
