Ford recalls nearly 300,000 F-Series trucks over defective fuel pumps

defective fuel pump could cause a loss of power, raising the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday.

"Biodiesel deposits may form on the pump drivetrain roller components, which could lead to failure of the high pressure fuel pump," the NHTSA stated.

Drivers whose vehicles are affected by the faulty fuel pump may experience "extended crank while starting, a Check Engine Light (CEL), noise and reduced engine power," recall documents show.

The recall applies to the following truck models:

2020-2022 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600 2021-2022 Ford F-650, F-750

The Lightning is under a different recall.

When it rains, it pours I guess.

As a former Toyota tech, now I’m glad to see I retired when I did.

The Lightning recall is a steering issue.

“putting 11000 dollar engines in 100000 Tundras.”

Those engines manufactured in Mexico?

It really is amazing. Cars have been on the road for 100 years. Yet nothing seems to be perfected. (Yeah, I know it’s not that simple.)

Some wise person (I forget who) recently remarked that the auto industry went south the moment they took the decision-making power away from the engineers and gave it to the accountants.

IMO it’s because they keep making them more and more complicated.

Or as I like to say......more crap that WILL break eventually.

> I heard that.....Mexican quality perhaps? <

Awhile back I was at a dealership looking at new Ford Mavericks. But I’ve read in many places to avoid anything made in Mexico.

Well, okay. The smiling salesman assured me that all of the Mavericks on their lot were made in the good old USA. I went browsing on their lot.

Every Maverick there was made in Hermosillo, Mexico. Said so right on the sticker.

I know a car salesman wouldn’t lie to me. So I can only conclude that the United States has invaded and annexed the city of Hermosillo.

Do you think the pressures to raise CAFE standards forced Toyota to try new features on these engines that proved not to work out? CVT, layers of electronics, cylinder deactivation, etc. all contribute to shorter part life and more expensive maintenance.

My 2018 Toyota Avalon 3.5l is just fine, and I expect it to out last me (I am 61).

When I was in school, long ago, a friend had an engineering internship at Ford.
His first job was to address a quality issue. Cars were leaking coolant.
He quickly traced the problem to when ford switched from using a real gasket on the thermostat housing, to using a paper ‘gasket’.
He said if we switch back to the real gasket, the problem will go away.
He was scolded and told ‘no way, that would add nine cents to the build cost of the car’.

“I know a car salesman wouldn’t lie to me.”

Oh no never. Lol!

In 2015 my wife was thinking about getting a new SUV, GM was in the middle of a recall for an ignition issue so I tried to steer her away from them but she wanted to see them anyway.

Armed with the knowledge of the recall we went to the dealership.

While we were looking at the very vehicle that was on the recall list I asked the salesman about it......his reply:

“It’s ONLY a safety recall”

When my wife heard that she looked at me and said “OK, let’s go”. Lol!
