LOS ANGELES — (AP) — Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a divorce settlement, ending one of the longest and most contentious divorces in Hollywood history but not every legal issue between the two.

Jolie and Pitt signed off on a default declaration filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, saying they have entered into a written agreement on their marital and property rights. The settlement was first reported by People magazine.

“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt,” Jolie's attorney, James Simon, said in a statement. “She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

Wow, that's harsh...

I was thinking along the lines of something you'd find eating a Krabby Patty in a Krusty Krab restaurant.

Only ones who made out were the lawyers, as usual. They could have settled this a long time ago.

I guess he was at a church service in which a child got healed, and it caused him to come to the LORD.

Most of europe, hate to admit, have divorce down correctly.

In America its a money making racket for the state and the lawyers and court appointed experts. Divorce courts rake in over 60 BILLION a year from people. Thats the peoples money that could help them and their kids if they didn’t get fleeced.

And America, marriage certificates are cheap. When you split, thats when govt steps in and determines through asset declrations how much they are going to take from you before they let you go your own way.

In almost all major countries I know of in europe, the state is not set up to profit off citizens divorces. Thus they have no incentive to ramp up animosity between husbands and wives, like they do in America, to draw it out, and get more court fees and experts and bump up legal costs. And also get the spouses to hate each other even more.

In europe by default custody is often 50 50 joint, both parties put money towards child support if applicable, and there is no lifelong alimony. If it is even ordered, since most men and women work, its only short term and it is supplemental, not ridiculous sums like in America, and its only for a short time. Both spouses are expected to work and pay for themselves, as both are grown ass adults. The flawed American idea that a female spouses standard of living needs to be maintained after the marriage ends, does not exist there. There is only realistic concern for child care with practical, normal money amounts for normal actual lving expenses (not alimony 2) and both parents will contribute to that amount. Custody isnt an issue because apaft from weird circumstances its 50-50.

We need to adopt their way of dealing with divorce. The state doesnt profit off it, it doesnt try to pit one spouse against another, it doesnt drag divorces out for years on purpose, it makes both parents equal custodians of the kids, one doesnt live off the other forever after, and both pay reasonable, realistic support amounts into a child support fund.
