Rep. Thomas Massie calls Johnson a "potato" who has blown the budget and should not be Speaker!

... Burchett’s GOP colleague, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), has explicitly said he will not be voting for Johnson to remain Speaker. He publicly disagreed with Trump and criticized Johnson as a “potato” who has blown the budget.

If Massie votes against Johnson, he can only afford one more vote against him if all House members are present and choose to vote on the matter.

Several Republicans, like Burchett, haven’t committed to voting for Johnson ahead of Friday’s vote.

Wow. So he cannot afford many defections then on Friday.

Rep. Burchett thinks they will unite and elect Johnson but it looks like it hangs in the balance

But potatoes have eyes and he’ll be watching for naysayers.
Long before he gets mashed.🥔👀

I’m sorry but republicans are absolute idiots.

They barely have any majority and need to stick together. So they do the opposite.

I don’t like him either ,but Trump has endorsed him and we have to stick together!
This is about getting our country back on track and not about you Massie. If you hold everything up ,it will be you that is hated and believe me ,you will be hated as much as a Democrat.
I like that you are a fighter and we need more guts in this party, but now is not the time fight against Trump and the people that put him in office!

Massie is a self-aggrandizing jackass.

Perhaps he can find a GOP House member who can get more than 20 votes for Speaker.

ABSOLUTELY they must stick together or Trump will be rendered powerless to get the agenda we ALL VOTED for done....

Not that it matters to Massie (or maybe it’s his plan), but LIZ CHENEY only needs 3 REPUBLICAN VOTES to become the next Speaker of the House (and no, it doesn’t matter that she is not a House member).

giving the media/Dems talking points is not only not being a team player, Massie, it’s grandstanding. i believe party discipline should be visited on him, perhaps taking away a plum committee assignment. Rs must learn to act as a team so we can get border/taxcuts done done done. this is how party leaders would get members in line in the past and perhaps should be used again. no one is going to get exactly what they want, but better to accept the “good” and forget getting the “perfect,” as Ronald Reagan counseled. grumble and whine in private, Massie.Roy, too. stop with the sound bites.

True. It’s partially why I finally left the party in 2021 after 35 years to simply be an Independent conservative.

Massie is such a pathetic narcissist. So tired of him. Can’t he just stay home and work on his DIY engineering projects? Why does he have to continue making things harder for Trump?

I suppose that one thinks about Massey's "grandstanding" depends on what one thinks about the seriousness of the threat presented by our national debt.

If you think that the looming threat of sovereign default is a manageable problem that can be fixed by addressing "waste fraud and abuse" then you think that Massey is a grandstander.

On the other hand, if you think the country faces in existential threat as bad as any in the Republic's existence, just as bad as the great depression, for example, then you are inclined to believe that Massey is not grandstanding but standing fast.

that’s simplistic. we’re all worried about many things, including fiscal irresponsibility. i could posit that closing our borders right now is a higher priority. anyhoo,Massie would do better to expend his energy persuading a majority to his way of thinking, actually effecting positive action - better in the long run than being a spoiler and lone voice in the willderness derailing the certification of DJT and his program. so we’ll agree to disagree - even though we basically agree.

Massie needs to get onboard with Trump. No fighting so that Trump can start his agenda to fix this country!

It is an “existential threat,” but there is probably little desire to deal with it.

It’s a team. Trump’s our coach and he wants Johnson. Thomas Massie’s a poor sport.

I submit that no one is a stronger convert to Trump's cause since 2017 than I but I am also aware that Trump threatened to veto these pork laden continuing resolutions but then reneged on that promise.

I'm also aware that McCarthy was removed from the speakership for engaging in these continuing resolutions and other declensions, but to no apparent effect on our downward spiral.

I am also aware that Johnson was ushered into the speakership on the understanding that these continuing resolutions would end, but they of course they did not. Indeed, Johnson presented a truly egregious continuing resolution that required Trump to quash.

What is a brilliant man like Massie to do, fail Einstein's test of insanity time and time again?

I for one believe that the Republic faces gravest peril if we slide into sovereign debt crisis and that the likelihood of that is high, so high that it must be the focus of Donald Trump's efforts to save the country-far more important than even immigration.

As you say, we both basically agree, and I would put Massie in that group as well.

And that is the very root of the problem and perhaps the ultimate justification for Massie's position.
