From my understanding, the issue was the aluminum head would cause the head bolts to loosen. I believe the fix were longer head bolts that would go deeper into the engine block.

From what I saw listed on a search, were of the Northstar 4.6 liter engine, but my personal understanding was that all Northstar engines actually had that issue. But the 4.6 liter was even more prone to fail much sooner.

If I were you I would contact Cadillac directly. Then you are more likely to get the most accurate history. Good luck with your beauty. Just out of curiosity, what color did you get, exterior & interior? 😁

My exterior color is silver, the interior is the same color as in your picture. I’m 1500 miles away from it for the winter, so I can’t send a picture.

I did look up info about the head stud problem. I hope Cadillac (it would now be GM Powertrain) has some kind of coating for the studs by now to prevent recurrence of the corrosion. If not, there is an aftermarket fix that uses studs with larger diameter in the block and a standard diameter for the head. These are much more complicated to install since they involve precisely drilling and then re-tapping deeper threads in the block.

The 2013 Grand Sport Corvette I traded my XLR in for was Silver, with Silver interior as well. Silver stays cleaner looking for longer than does Black.

Just as an FYI:

General Motors acquired Cadillac on July 29, 1909. Cadillac was founded by Henry Leland in 1902, and GM persuaded Leland to sell the company for $4.5 million in GM stock. Leland was allowed to retain his management positions within Cadillac after the acquisition.

I mention it only because Cadillac has been a GM product for over a century. Thus if you contacted GM, they would send you to the Cadillac division anyway.

It happens that I am a retired GM Engineering Center Director, but I retired exactly a quarter century ago today (as of 1/1/00). All my contacts from that era are also retired by now, and many of the Engineering Centers are gone, too. However, I can likely find a secondary contact in an engineering organization rather than a marketing division who might have worked on this or at least is aware of it. All of the engineering of engines and transmissions was performed in the Powertrain Division at that time, and I believe they still are.

When I visited the corvette plant in Bowling Green, shortly after the sinkhole opened up & swallowed several cars at the museum, I seem to remember something to that affect bring said when we all went through the actual plant. That would have been 2014. So, you are probably correct that it still operates that way. 🙂👍
