FAA investigating close call between Delta flight & Gonzaga University men's basketball team’s charter flights at LAX
The FAA has launched an investigation after the men's Gonzaga basketball team nearly got eliminated by a Delta plane taking off.
"Stop! Stop! Stop!" the air traffic controller could be heard saying.
The chartered jet, carrying the team, had just landed at LAX.
The incident happened on Friday December 27, 2024 before Gonzaga's game against UCLA

Lots of airplane incidents lately
Another new one
Norway Flight Makes Emergency Landing Following Hydraulic Failure, Pilots Lose Control and Skid off Runway

From the audio tape, it appears the chapter plane was piloted by a woman.
Ground controller problem?.............
Elon
Or
Ellen
Or another name?
I don’t think enough is known yet to make that determination. Scary.
AVIATION PING!....................
SOP would be for the pilot monitoring to handle the radio while the pilot flying is driving the bus.
Much wimmin hating here: https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/4287150/posts

The recording seems very clear. Before landing, the DEI was told to NOT CROSS the parallel runway and the DEI correctly read back the instruction. Then the plane proceeded to almost cross the runway. Ground control wasn’t involved, nor were there any mistakes by the non-DEI tower controllers.
There are too many mishaps around the country. Ineptness? Or, sabotage?
“I didn’t go THAT far back-I think the link brought me in after that admonition. I tried going back, but just couldn’t navigate to the correct area in the video. Thanks for that info.”
You’re welcome. This is a good starting point, which shows the DEI plane approaching to land. You’ll then see the Delta plane starting to take off, then the tower tells the DEI to not cross the left runway (as it’s slowing down after landing), and the DEI pilot reads it back correctly. Then if you look carefully (very carefully), you’ll see the DEI plane plane go over some runway markings, which is when the tower yells: “Stop! Stop! Stop!”

Perfect. I didn’t hear it initially because the guys recording it were talking a bit over it and I just missed what they said, but I did hear the response.
Ugh. I was driving with my wife over the weekend, and as I approached a car prepared to pull out on my right, I just happened to have my eyes on him when he pulled out and I slammed on my brakes and honked, and he stopped.
He was a very old guy, and...he was looking at me, but it was clear he didn’t see me even though he was looking right at me. I could never have stopped in time.
I wonder if this pilot got the command, and robotically repeated it back without actually processing what it meant.

My understanding is that it is a basic rule of flying that a plane doesn’t cross an active runway without permission, particularly at a large airport. So even if the controller was tied up on someone else, the plane should have stopped, until further instructed.
The controller response time was amazing, I wonder if there was some type of alarm triggered (but even with an alarm, the controller would have to figure out what call to make, and damn fast!).
I’m beginning to think my friend, who has experienced two crashes, is onto something as he refuses to fly on any airplane/airline/thing that goes up in the air.
