Is Anyone Else Spending Christmas Eve Alone? 2024 Edition (vanity)
Source? I am the source. | Christmas Eve 2024 | Skooz

Just wondering if any of my fellow FR friends are, like me, enjoying a solo Christmas Eve. I have all the presents wrapped, Christmas music in the background and will spend the evening with my faithful greyhound, Ralphie Parker and then George Bailey -- the same routine every year.

Any of you folks solo this evening?

My wife died in May and my stepsons are out of town. I got some Amazon candy from someone today, I don’t know whom. A neighboring family came by whom my wife knew on her walks, wished me a merry Christmas and give me some treats. Otherwise, it’s just another day in the week on the Internet for me.

My son moved to Florida. Last year I went there for Christmas. Life’s schedule got a little weird this holiday season and I’m home and he’s there. Enjoy your time with your son. I miss mine a lot. I did mail presents to him tho. Have to admit, I was feeling pretty depressed about it last night.

Been there - done that too.....One Christmas snow was really bad so flights were thrown off schedule - some made it - some didn't but had to stay at the airport until all was know. Ended up driving home down three lanes out of the city and no cars or plows had been on the road ahead of me. Snow was a last 20 inches and still coming down hard so visibility as bad.... Longest ride home ever! Was never so happy to see my exit!

Hi Ciaphus, you are not alone. We are there with you in spirit and you have my sincere prayers.

I know this is hard. I won’t sugarcoat it. It is very, very hard. Grief, and abandonment by your blood kin, are terrible things to bear.

I wish I could show up at your door with a big basket full of Christmas cheer, but alas. Prayer is real, though, and you have mine and I’m sure those of many other Freepers. I hope you can sense them on this holy night.

May the LORD bless thee, and keep thee;
May the LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee;
May the LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace this night and forevermore.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, world without end,
Amen.

(((Big virtual hugs)))

Twas the Night Before Jesus Came

‘Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house
Not a creature was praying, not one in the house.
Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

When out of the East there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was The matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
I knew in a moment this must be The Day!

The light of His face made me cover my head
It was Jesus! Returning just like He had said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

In the Book of Life which He held in His Hand
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
When He said “It’s not here” My head hung in shame!

The people whose names had been written with love
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound
While all the rest were left standing around.

I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
I had waited too long and this sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
There’s only one life and when comes the last call
We’ll find that the Bible was true after ALL!

“I’ve been in this area for a few years and still haven’t found a good church.”

Don’t give up hope. We moved here in 2010, and finally found a good church this past April.

Frankly, God blessed them by letting them both go together after so many years, even if it was 32 days apart. It is quite so common and easy to understand. One can die of a broken heart!

++++++++++

Everything you said is true. It is a blessing that they left so close together. She really had lost her will to live.

Merry Christmas to you.

I was blessed with half a century with him. I choose to smile because of what I had not cry because of what I have lost.

I'm a guy. We're not supposed to cry. BUT I do! All the time and almost every day. I'm thankful for her and what we did together. I cry because I miss her. I'm sure you understand. When our life partners go -- a big part of us go with them, too!

I'm like you. I'm so grateful for 50-plus years and what we did together. We came such a long way together.

As we got older, my wife always asked if I had any regrets. My answer was always not so much. Oh, how things have changed! So many things I could have done better. I tell her that every day :-).

I will see him again.

Oh, my friend. YES! Our loves are still with us, just in spirit. They're watching over us from Heaven now, waiting as we wrap up here and join them again as one.

Thank you for sharing, and God be with you, too!

We are never alone when we know Jesus as our Friend and Savior. . .that’s how I look at life.
-
As for my evening. . .it is being spent with my indoor/outdoor pets Doggie Dog (a 16 year old beagle), Doogie Dog (a rescue from the pound around 6 years old - over 3 times the size of the beagle), Big Bro and Lil Sis - 12 year old brother and sister cat combo left at our house as kittens by their mother . . .outside and not yet tame is a Calico cat (Callie) who has kittens in the barn that I have seen once. She has come into the house twice but just down in the basement only to surface in a couple of minutes and out the door. She also lets me know she is hungry. I feed her on the back of an old golf cart in the garage. . .she is one hungry cat. I guess we don’t need to go into the price of pet food these days.

Anyway. . .just to let you know you are not alone

My favorite MST3k Christmas movie is “Jack Frost.” Weirdest movie I’ve ever seen on there but also hilarious. I truly thought I was on an acid trip watching it, lol.

My wife and I just returned from the annual Christmas-evening dinner at my daughter’s home...

It was a medium crowd this year, only 19 friends and some of our extended family...
Most grandchildren and their children are nearby (MD) at their own events...
We will be seeing all of them tomorrow...

I’ve seen many MST3K episodes but I can’t recall seeing that one. I’ll have to look for it.

My husband passed 10.29.22. I know what you mean about reflection, and thankful for the 38 years we had together. Spending tomorrow with his family and our kids, grand kids. Tonight, just me and the dog.

Merry Christmas.
