2. While the contemporary world has converted to the theory of ‘less is more’, some people take the concept way too far. This terribly frail, one-branched tree seems like a killjoy for any Christmas gathering. The tree is so small that gifts the size of ring boxes will barely fit underneath the branch-less stem. Maybe that is the whole idea though?

I know from 8 years ago, but IMO this tree symbolizes the true meaning of Christmas.

Flame away.

A thread with great potential. Looking forward to watching it develop. Excellent idea.

I wish I could convince my wife to go with a tree like that!

Wish I had a picture. My mother’s gold spray painted tumbleweed.

I find that a spun aluminum pole is quite adequate. I find tinsel to be distracting.

You should put an effort to create the most kicking tree that you can do. Then, after Christmas, put it away properly so you only have to put it together once.

My first Christmas here and having no money, I didn’t use a tumbleweed but I did use another type of dead weed that blew into my yard, I don’t know what it was but for decorations I grabbed a fistful of Walmart christmasy gift card blanks and used them for the decorations by making a hole and using string to hang them.

I also cut some branches from a tree and pinned them to the walls to break up the blankness of the room.

Paganist anyway, has nothing at all to do with Christianity.

Some might consider this a bad idea, but one option to save on electricity costs is:

Just set it on fire.

Jehovah Witnesses disallow such “Christmasy” things.

I’d miss them.

It’s a mind picture. And all of us are creating variations on the image for ourselves. My image has a paper reindeer hanging off of it, also painted gold.

When I was a swinging single.... ok scratch that... when I was a mostly dateless single working my way up the corporate ladder living in 380 square feet of a studio apartment I did not have room for a tree. Or much of anything. So my first year I bought a rosemary bush cut in a somewhat Christmas Tree shape.

It smelled nice. It even looked nice with the cheap tiny ornaments I put on it. If you tilted your head and squinted.

And lived. All I had to do was dump some water on it once a week and it lived. Even bloomed when I put it out on my front step in the summer. Stupid cheap tree lived for almost ten years. Until my cat decided to play with it.

So that is the story of my sort of Christmas Tree. And how he died.

And why rosemary reminds me of poverty.

Not just JWs. Well known black Philly preacher Gino Jennings teaches against all the Christmas vanity, and uses the scripture’s own testimony to prove the point. But people are vain, and family traditions die hard.

We haven’t had a tree in the house for 41 years, and my wife loves it that way.

Our oldest son was only 4 when he realized the Santa Claus buffoonery was a sham. When a kid sees one Santa after another, and wants to know which one is the real Santa, it’s time to tell him or her the truth and be done with it.

Jesus Christ said that the second commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. Being honest with yourself should include being honest with your neighbor, even if its not popular.

And the big winner in the last few decades has to be the ccp, as they have made a LOT of the cheap, and not so cheap, Christmas stuff.
