The Washington Commanders are one of the most storied teams in the NFL. After being started as the Boston Braves in 1932. Following a big move to Washington D.C., the team would change to the Washington Redskins in 1937.
The Redskins would play at RFK Stadium from 1961-96, and then move to FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland — where they remained until now. However, after another name change that led to the Washington Commanders moniker, the team might finally move back to their namesake.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, the RFK Stadium Bill was quietly passed by the senate. This bill will lead to the renovation of RFK Stadium, which can be come the new home of the Commanders following their lease ending in 2027.
According to A.J. Perez, "BREAKING: D.C. will soon be an option for the next Washington Commanders stadum in a shocking early morning twist in the Senate. The RFK Stadium bill passed by unanimous consent—meaning all 100 Senators were on board— hours after it was left out of the continuing resolution."

All 100 Senators voted in favor? Good to see that ruling class solidarity. My personal view is that if the public pays for the thing, the public has already paid for its tickets, and the money from the luxury suites the public will never see should be paid back to them.
If I recall correctly , both the San Francisco Giants in baseball , and the LA Rams in football, paid for their own stadiums.
I would have to research further, but it seems that it is possible for stadiums to be built, without taxpayers having to pay for them.
It seems to me that if a sports team wants a new facility, let them pay for it themselves.
It’s up to DC to try to get the stadium built. But apparently the city council is lukewarm about using the city’s funds to build a new stadium for the Washington Commanders.
Josh Harris is not going to use his funds to build a new stadium. If DC won't do it, then he can try to get a new one built by the government in either VA or MD.
It appears that it has only passed the House, not the Senate.
There may be a different bill. The one linked above is from Feb.
In that case you figure it is hardly a done deal, that a new stadium will be built at the RFK site.
It sounds like Harris is going to be fielding different offers ,from different localities ,in the Washington area.
The House passed the bill in February. Now the Senate have just passed it. Soon Joe Biden will sign it. They were planning on passing the bill the whole time. They wanted to sneak it in the omnibus bill first. But that didn’t work. So they had this as their backup.
Governments are run by idiots. But they're all Democrats so it's easy for Harris to take advantage.
DC is most likely to say no to Harris, because they've just shelled out $500 million to keep the Capitals and the Wizards in DC.
They're not going to want to pay one billion dollars to build a new stadium for the Commanders.

The bill makes no reference to a lease fee from DC to the federal government.
Remember they're no longer the Redskins. Now they're Commanders. I bet they're not too wild about their taxes subsidizing a billionaire owner of a sports team.
This is a separate bill the Senate stayed in session until 1:30 am to pass.
