The Washington Commanders are one of the most storied teams in the NFL. After being started as the Boston Braves in 1932. Following a big move to Washington D.C., the team would change to the Washington Redskins in 1937.
The Redskins would play at RFK Stadium from 1961-96, and then move to FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland — where they remained until now. However, after another name change that led to the Washington Commanders moniker, the team might finally move back to their namesake.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, the RFK Stadium Bill was quietly passed by the senate. This bill will lead to the renovation of RFK Stadium, which can be come the new home of the Commanders following their lease ending in 2027.
According to A.J. Perez, "BREAKING: D.C. will soon be an option for the next Washington Commanders stadum in a shocking early morning twist in the Senate. The RFK Stadium bill passed by unanimous consent—meaning all 100 Senators were on board— hours after it was left out of the continuing resolution."

My Georgetown lawyer daughter actually lived in a basement apartment down the street from RFK when she first moved to DC. She took me and the wife there to show us the giant husk. As an old time NFL fan it was a real shame because so much greatness played there.
But no more shame than changing the team name and eliminating its fantastic emblem.
The Washington Redskins’ logo was designed in 1971 by Walter “Blackie” Wetzel, a Blackfeet Nation tribal chairman and former president of the National Congress of American Indians.
“The family of the Native American chief behind the Redskins logo is asking the league to bring his image back. The Blackfeet chief, John Two Guns White Calf, was the face of the Redskins for nearly 50 years. His family claims he was the “most famous and most photographed” Native American in history.”
Great website on stadium insanity—by city, sport, team.

Bottom line:
Stadiums are nothing but the looting of the poor and middle class by rich owners, well to do fans and the politicians on their payroll.
It is grotesque.
Josh Harris is worth $11.2 Billion. Let him build the stadium in DC with his money if he wants to do it so badly.
This should not be funded by your tax dollars! https://t.co/8H6zBjptPE— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 18, 2024
First ... that's a heck of a name. Tip-o-the-hat to his parents for giving it to him.
Second ... I see the problem: "Guns" and "White". No wonder the leftists are having a screaming conniption fit.
Don't forget the real estate owners, land developers, construction firm owners, and service contract company owners.
Sure beats Two Sheds
Do I understand that I a Florida resident are ponying up tax money so a bunch of DC insiders can watch their local team play a game?? I despise that place. I want them to put a cross hair logo at mid field visible from satellite targeting.
Yes you, as a Florida resident, will be ponying up tax money so a bunch of DC insiders can watch their local team play a game. Any children or grandchildren will be ponying up tax money as well.
I thought this was removed from CR?
So have you.
Separated. Stand alone bill.
I think the bill that passed just turns over the land for 99 years to the city for development, not spending federal funds. It also apparently bans the use of federal funds to build the stadium. I could be wrong but I think that is what I read.
