Donald Trump’s team has told European officials that the incoming US president will demand Nato member states increase defence spending to 5 per cent of GDP, but plans to continue supplying military aid to Ukraine.
During his White House campaign, Trump vowed to cut off aid to Ukraine, force Kyiv into immediate peace talks, and leave Nato allies undefended if they failed to spend enough on defence — spooking European capitals.
But in a boost for allies deeply concerned over their ability to support and protect Ukraine without Washington’s backing, Trump now intends to maintain US military supplies to Kyiv after his inauguration, according to three other people briefed on the discussions with western officials.

No. It really needs to be 5% so that Europe can protect itself. That number in no way benefits the United States, it benefits Europe mostly, as well as the nations of Europe. Trump is trying to make sure that NATO is real, and it’s about time somebody did.
“Putin is unstable.”
Look in the mirror.
I told you President Trump wasn’t going to throw Putin a victory parade.
We should pull out of NATO. Trump warned them 7 years ago. Really they did not do much since then.
When President Trump said he’d end Putin’s invasion with Peace Through Strength diplomacy he meant it.
Israel is also rich and can pay for its own defense.
So can Taiwan.
Because Russia is no longer a threat; it would never invade another country and continue the war for nearly three years, right?
Trump also promised a "big, beautiful door" in his wall on the border.
But I thought Trump had Putin wrapped around his finger. Notwithstanding Putin has already called Trump out as a liar, and his TV station ran a roll of nude photos of Melania while smirking at the announcement that Trump won the election, Trump always talks up Putin and clearly admires him, unstable or not. I guess his promise that only he can end the war, and he’d end it within 24 hour of his inauguration is like his promise that Mexico would pay for the wall
It benefits the US corporations that build all the standardized equipment used by NATO.
Another pro-Ukraine propaganda article where the Zeeper Never-Trumpers just can’t help but out themselves!
“”””It’s five percent or we pull out of NATO””””
To accomplish that Trump will have to convince them that Russia is the threat that you see them as, to require that massive of military budgets for Russia’s 31 European neighbors who are under the most direct threat.
President Trump will end Putin’s invasion with Peace Through Strength diplomacy and sanctions relief for Russia in exchange for retreating from occupied Ukraine territory.
actually was just reading a story about why nuclear arsenals became so huge.
After WW2 the USA and rest of NATO were supposed to create a 50 something division standing army in Europe. It was figured that would be enough to hold off the Warsaw pacts 175 division army if they invaded.
The US came up with their quota and Western Europe failed miserably.
So the US calculated the only way to stop them Was by using nukes and that started the nuclear arms race in earnest.
Some things Never change it seems.
What quota, what was that post about, what were you reading, what dates?
Still sore that your beloved Kamala lost.
Get over it.
This seems more like EU propaganda.
NATO, UN, Ukraine and the EU all belong in the same circular file drawer.
But, but, but we learn what Trump WILL DO in the future "...according to three other people briefed on the discussions with western officials...."
Aside from those benefits, world shipping is patrolled/protected by the US navy. There should be a contribution for that, which permits Europe to forego that responsibility allowing them to fund generous social programs that make our leftists salivate.
