Thirty-eight House Republican lawmakers voted against the President-elect Trump-backed government spending bill that failed to clear the lower chamber with just more than a day before the shutdown.

And that's baloney.
Thomas Massie was in a position to unilaterally block the Biden-McCarthy deal in the spring of 2023 to suspend the debt ceiling through 2024 as the deciding vote on the measure in the House Rules Committee.
This is a guy who has made a career out of whining about fiscal irresponsibility, and literally walks around with a stupid clock that tracks the federal debt to make his point. But when he was in a position to actually do something about it, he had the fortitude of a wet noodle and caved.
Not a single one from California! Way to go! (/S)
They want a clean CR until we can get a 'real' budget under Trump. There's nothing wrong with lifting the debt ceiling as long as we get a balanced budget along with it. Shut the congressional Ponzi scheme down for now and no one will miss them.
That many of the congress assholes tried to give themselves a pay raise and an Obamacare exemption in the first bill says all you need to know about the filthy looters in the house. Shut it the F' down!
There’s a lot of red state reps on that list, not blue state Rs who slipped in by being left of center.
How disappointing.
“trump backed”
So easily deceived.
Well, V1 was the pits.
V2 was much better.
V3 could go either way, but there will be a new Congress on Jan3.
For Massie, it's baloney. Not all of the others.
Beth Van Duyne and Richard McCormick...why am I not surprised they voted in tandem?
I'm looking forward to 2026.
Was the pro-forced jabs portion of the bill retained in this version?
Has there been an explanation as to why the DOGE-backing Trump wants the debt ceiling lifted?
There is no doubt in my mind that every one of those other GOP Congressmen would have voted the same way as Massie if they were in the same position.
You are making too much sense for this crowd.
My understanding is that he wants as much flexibility as possible in his first two fiscal years when the GOP controls both houses of Congress, and doesn't want a debt ceiling battle to interfere with a regular budget negotiation next spring.
Then there’s no use increasing the debt ceiling. It makes zero sense to raise it. If the three want to cut then a debt increase is unnecessary.
You can’t balance a budget with a five trillion dollar debt increase. 41 trillion by 2027. Just great. None of you are fically conservative or responsible.
When the Boss endorses you vote YES! Backstabbing RINOS!
What were the objections that led 38 repubs to vote no?
I’ve seen priorities for next congress being 1st The Wall 2nd Taxes, etc
FIRST needs to be a Actual Budget
USG has run on CRs since 2008
IOW there has not been a Budget passed since 2008
There shouldn’t be a battle. The debt should stay at 36 trillion or drop during trumps four years.
My only issue with the shutdown is all of the money still gets spent and all of the workers are paid to not work at all.
