A powerful magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck just off the coast of Vanuatu on Tuesday, causing widespread destruction in the South Pacific island nation as the injured began arriving at a hospital and unconfirmed reports of casualties emerged.
A tsunami warning was called off less than two hours after the quake. With communications still down hours later and official information scarce, witness accounts of casualties began to surface on social media and through patchy phone calls.
The earthquake happened at just before 1 p.m. at a depth of 57 kilometers (35 miles) and was centered 30 kilometers west of Port Vila, the largest city in Vanuatu — a group of 80 islands that is home to about 330,000 people. It was followed by a magnitude 5.5 aftershock near the same location, with tremors continuing throughout the afternoon and evening.

It looks quite lovely. One of the islands has a place called Pentecost, where a school is. I would be concerned about headhunters, however. This could have been where Biden’s uncle got ‘tabled’.

I think that was on New Guinea. Which was also the last place one of the Rockefellers was seen.
FYI, my dad spent some time on the north side of New Guinea around Wee Wak with Douglas MacArthur in 1944-45. Dad said there were head hunters still in the interior of the island back then. He had pictures of men with feathers in their hair and bones through their noses. I guess that is that that much different than half the twenty something women around today.

A good friend of mine, a Crocodile Dundee type, who was a contractor with the Aussie military, had a nasty scar down his back from a stone axe thrown at him from behind in the wilds of PNG. This happened to him in the 1980s. He said they could be friendly one minute, then turn on you without warning the next.
So many Americans are unaware of what went on during WWII in Southeast Asia. I imagine your Dad had fascinating stories to tell!

Yes, and activity has taken place all around the Pacific plate with exception of....Southern California. Plate is turning clockwise. There is most likely a whole lot of energy stored up just waiting for the SoCal faults to let go
